The Boston Celtics training camp roster is likely set at 18, the Boston Globe's Baxter Holmes reported Tuesday evening. Barring any unexpected late changes, the Celtics have 14 players on guaranteed contracts, plus four nonguaranteed camp invites (DeShawn Sims, Damen Bell-Holter, Kammron Taylor and Chris Babb) who could be fighting for the team's 15th and final roster spot. After waiving Donte Greene, Boston currently sits about $528,000 underneath the luxury tax threshold -- only enough room to add a rookie on a minimum contract. Because none of the aforementioned camp invites have NBA experience, any of them could potentially fit into that final slot. It's also possible for the Celtics to enter the season with only 14 players. Another option would be to exceed the threshold to sign a free agent, but, during a rebuilding year, president of basketball operations Danny Ainge has indicated he doesn't want to land above the tax line. By paying the Memphis Grizzlies $1.66 million (plus Fab Melo) to acquire Greene -- only so they could cut him -- the Celtics sent another message they are serious about staying away from the harsh repeater tax. Unless they make a trade to free more cap space, it seems very likely they won't look at any free agents with NBA experience. As training camp approaches, here are my initial thoughts for a depth chart (assuming everyone's healthy): PG: Rajon Rondo, Phil Pressey, Kammron Taylor SG: Avery Bradley, Courtney Lee, MarShon Brooks, Keith Bogans, Jordan Crawford, Chris Babb SF: Jeff Green, Gerald Wallace, DeShawn Sims PF: Jared Sullinger, Brandon Bass, Kris Humphries, Damen Bell-Holter C: Kelly Olynyk, Vitor Faverani Of course, Rondo's returning from ACL surgery and could miss the start of the season; Olynyk, dealing with plantar fascitiis, recently said he hopes the condition won't limit him during training camp; and Sullinger's coming back from back surgery, plus dealing with a domestic violence arrest for which he's due back in court on Sept. 23. My projections aren't strictly based on merit, either.
