UNITED LET BLUES IN - VAN RAAIJ

PSV Eindhoven president Harry van Raaij has confirmed that they only
opened talks with Chelsea over Arjen Robben, after they failed to agree a
deal with Manchester United.
Dutch international Robben had held talks with United earlier this
season and was expected to seal a summer move to Old Trafford.
However, they would not meet PSV's asking price - which allowed Chelsea
to step in and snatch him from under their rivals' noses.
Chelsea confirmed on Monday evening that Robben was undergoing a medical
and his summer move should be sealed in the next month, but the 20-year-old
will not arrive until June.
PSV president van Raaij was quick to confirm that United were to blame
for not landing the youngster.
"Because United were first in the queue, we kept Chelsea waiting," said
van Raaij.
"But when we had our second discussion with United over a fee, we were v
ery disappointed over how low they believed they could push us.
"They seemed to think he was worth a lot less than Chelsea were willing
to pay.
"That was a massive letdown and it was only then we opened negotiations
with Chelsea.
"There's a very good chance we will finalise the transfer this week."
The Blues have been in talks with PSV for the last few weeks about a
number of issues - including an official link-up.
Chelsea have now agreed a deal approaching ￡14 million for Robben and
they have already made a down payment of ￡7 million - which the Dutch
giants have used to broker a deal for Brazilian starlet Alex.
The Santos defender has yet to seal his move Holland because of a
medical - but he is still expected to transfer to The Philips Stadion in
the next few weeks.
After two years playing in De Eredivisie - it is then expected that the
highly-rated stopper will move to Chelsea.
