But he is not surprised by the media explanation of events. “I understand what it looks like but he was injured again. You know me, I’m not a person to hide things,” he said at the pre-match press conference, silencing suggestions that there was a show of anger over the Dutch winger’s coming off. “He was disappointed because he was injured. At half-time I made two changes and I say to him when I saw him with the medical department, I want to make the next one but I want to play Duff and you together, I want to take out a defender, and he was making me a sign from the pitch that he couldn’t carry on. So he was running out a little bit out of control, disappointed because of injury.” This is an injury that has niggled for some time. “It’s in the hamstring, but it looks like starting in the colon.
