Manager Brendan Rodgers shifted the personnel around a little in advance of Tuesday's FA Youth Cup fourth round tie at Brighton, but then lost central defender Michael Mancienne to a hamstring strain after 25 minutes, and that makes him very doubtful for the midweek game. Sawyer substituted. Even then it wasn't a good display. “Overall it was a below par performance,” says Brendan. “We didn't play with our normal tempo. We need to get that right on Tuesday night.” All the same, Chelsea almost took the lead midway through the second-half when the two Portuguese linked up, Fabio Ferreira putting Ricardo Fernandes through and his shot from five yards outside the area being tipped on to the post by the goalkeeper before it went for a corner. Schoolboy Sawyer was carried off after injuring his knee in a wild challenge, but Chelsea looked not to be suffering too much from is absence. “In that period we quite comfortable,” Brendan says. The losing goal came from a corner.
