Carvalho: We must start sharp

Ricardo Carvalho has led the call for Chelsea to be quick out of the
blocks against today's opponents Charlton to avoid a repeat of the
close-run game at Sunderland.
Chelsea started sluggishly at the Stadium of Light last weekend,
conceded after just 12 minutes, and took another 57 minutes to finally
take the lead. The Chelsea rearguard are now three games without a clean
sheet in all competitions and the lesson of seven days ago must be learnt
if that is to be put right according to our Portuguese centre-back.
“We have to look at this last game because there was a danger we
could lose points,” he said on Chelsea TV. “You have to look in the next
game that we don't start as in Sunderland. Sometimes, I don't know why, we
have not started as well as we can. It is normal when you play against
good teams you have 100 per cent concentration. When you play teams a
little bit weaker, you are more relaxed. But we are professional and we
have to improve a little bit these things.”

If the team heeds his words and Chelsea do record another three
points over Charlton, Carvalho is going to take only a passing interest in
the 4pm kick-off between second-placed Man United and third-placed
Liverpool.
“If we play well, we will win our game,” he insists. “We have a lot
of points in front so we don't need to look at other teams. We don't need
to expect Man United to win or Liverpool to win.”
