John Terry has been named the Chelsea Player of the Year for 2006.

By winning the award in the club's centenary season, the captain becomes
one of a select band of nine players who have won for a second time. He
previously topped the supporters' vote in 2001 after his breakthrough
season into the first team.

Terry collected the trophy from another east London-born Terry who has
captained Chelsea — Terry Venables. The venue was a special awards
dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London's Park Lane, the final
event of the club's centenary celebrations attended by a thousand people.

As he accepted the honour, a smiling skipper said: “It means everything
in the world to me. I have been at the club such a long time so it
certainly means a lot. There has been great competition this year and it
could have been any one of us so I am absolutely delighted to get it.”

Four other players made a shortlist of nominations that was unveiled just
before the event — Joe Cole, Frank Lampard, Claude Makelele and William
Gallas. The winner was decided by votes from thousands of supporters cast
via the club's website or sent in using coupons from the matchday
programme or Chelsea magazine.
其他票數較多的是小喬、副隊長、馬卡、加拉。
Lassana Diarra, the 21 year-old midfielder who has made a big impression
in his first five Chelsea games this season was the Young Player of the
Year.
迪亞拉獲得最佳年輕球員，他在一軍出場過五次。
Makelele was the first recipient of a new Samsung-sponsored Players'
Player of the Year award, chosen by his team-mates plus the backroom
coaching and medical staff.
馬卡獲得三星獎，該獎是由球員、教練和醫療團隊自己票選出來的最佳球員獎。

The squad's senior member told the audience: “I am really happy. The
first season that I came was difficult for the adaptation but now I am
very happy for my family, for some friends and for the team.”
馬卡說他第一個賽季很難適應，但他現在很開心。
