Diarra on winning side in Under 21 opener

Lassana Diarra played the closing 25 minutes of France Under 21s victory
over host nation Portugal as the UEFA Under U21 Championships got underway
on Monday evening.

The Chelsea midfielder was brought on as France looked to preserve a
single goal lead, the product of an own-goal just before the break. This
they did with relative comfort although Diarra did collect a booking.

Chelsea's Nuno Morais started the game in Braga for the highly-fancied
Portuguese side and played 72 minutes. Both teams are in action again on
Friday — France playing Germany, Portugal taking on Serbia and Montenegro.
