Ballack: Defeat in Dortmund not undeserved

Michael Ballack has no complaints about the semi-final result that denied
the new Chelsea man the chance to captain Germany in the World Cup Final.
“It is very bitter for us to get eliminated one minute from time, but
not undeserved,” he said in the wake of Italy's 2-0 extra-time win.
“We started out rather slowly but did a much better job in the second
half. The game was well-balanced. The Italians had the better chances in
extra-time as they hit woodwork twice. But we also had some good
opportunities afterwards.
“I don't really know what happened,” Ballack admitted about that goal
that finally made the breakthrough in a tight but thrilling match.
“Pirlo did a superb job. Normally you would shoot but he ran parallel to
the box. We had three players in front of him but could not prevent his
feed. And then Grosso puts in a great, clinical finish.”
Germany's star player is ruing a missed Final appearance for the second
World Cup in a row. Suspension cost him a place in the defeat by Brazil
four years ago.
“It just is not meant to be for me,” he said. “It is bitter.”
