Carvalho: France were no better

Ricardo Carvalho has given his view of the penalty incident that led to
Portugal's World Cup semi-final defeat by France.
The crucial challenge came in the 33rd minute when the Chelsea centre-back
attempted to tackle Thierry Henry.

“It was my mistake,” he is reported as saying in Portuguese sports
newspaper Record. “I know I made contact with Henry but the referee could
have played the advantage. He did their job for them.
“When we had dangerous situations he did not help us out. We did not play
as we wanted to and are capable of but all the same we deserved more than
this.
“I don't think France were any better than us - they managed to score a
penalty and then defended. We did not manage to equalise and it was very
difficult for us.”
A bad night for Carvalho was added to by a booking that sees him miss
Saturday's third-place play-off against Germany. However Paulo Ferreira is
likely to play. Portugal's regular right-back Miguel was forced off
against France with an injury.
