In that time, we have won just once against West Bromwich Albion on Boxing Day, while conceding frustrating goals against Fulham, Southend and Manchester United. Tonight, we face the Shrimpers again and Scolari is determined for his side to put things right and progress into the FA Cup fourth round. 'I think the last games we play 50 per cent, no more than this. Some players play 80, 75, 35, 40, a balance for our team the last five games, 50 per cent,' he assessed. 'It is not ready to win a competition, and they know this. 'They try in the training and in the games, I understand, but it is difficult I know, and for the fans, but do you think any player in the world goes to the pitch in front of 75,000 people and says, "I don't like to play"? No, never.' During the course of a season, most teams will go through a difficult patch of form, and Scolari has already indicated he believes we just need one win to get back on track. This visit to Roots Hall would be the ideal opportunity. The manager has dismissed suggestions that he needs to invest in new talent, and believes a couple of poor results do not signal the end for this Chelsea team. 'This is a team that Chelsea built five years ago, and in this season we receive only two [new] players in Chelsea - Bosingwa and Deco. This is a team that many coaches built before and now I arrive with these two players. They are in good condition until now, maybe one or two years and then need to change something, but for me now they are in good condition,' he explained, before using one player as an example. 'One of the best is Ricardo Carvalho, and he is 31 I think, age is not a problem. Our mentality is very good but we are now in trouble because we lost many points in the last four games. It is only this.' The Brazilian raised the possibility of changes for Southend, with Nicolas Anelka possibly returning to the frontline. 'I [saw] many games with Anelka, and the last four or five with Didier, and I have my opinion and I put my opinion on the pitch every game. If I give only one chance maybe some players say, "Look, I only have one chance, it is impossible". 'When I give four or five, no more question. It is my decision and finished. Now I start tomorrow with one team, and I need answers.' A vastly experienced football man, Scolari has been in the game in excess of 40 years. He understands the way speculation works in the newspapers, and does not mind being judged in the media. 'I am the man that is responsible for this. I think my players try to do the best, the trouble is mistakes we made in the last five games, only this. 'I like Chelsea, I like Cobham where I live, I like the school where my son studies, my job here, the people, the press. It's difficult, but I like, it is not a problem for me. I like every day in London. 'My job started on the first day, until now.
