PLAYERS AND ARMANI RAISE MONEY IN STYLE

The entire first team squad joined over 300 charity workers, celebrities
and supporters last night (Wednesday 4 March) for the second annual
Chelsea Football Club and Armani charity fundraiser.

After the first team's successful evening raising funds for the club's
charity partners, chelseafc.com took a closer look at what went on in the
Armani store on Brompton Road.

With the whole squad attending the event, there was bound to be plenty of
interest from young football fans eager to meet their idols, and needless
to say there were plenty of paying guests at the occasion.

Not only did the players sign autographs and pose for photos, but once
they had met the five CLIC Sargent families, the players pitted their
talents against their young fans, playing computer games, pool and table
football.

'It is amazing to meet the players at such close quarters and they played
games with the kids, so it is nice for everybody,' said 18-year-old cancer
sufferer Andrew Thomsett (pictured below right).

'It shows that the first team do care, the whole squad have turned up and
they are happy to meet everybody, which is really good. It is very
important, this is the second event they have organised with Chelsea and
it is very good.'

Over ￡15,000 was raised from ticket sales for last night's event, with
all the money going towards the club's charity partners CLIC Sargent
(national charity partner) and Right to Play (global charity partner).

That was not the only way the event raised funds though, as a percentage
of the profits made from Armani's clothes sales during the evening went to
the charities before an auction of signed memorabilia added to the final
sum.
Chelsea and England captain John Terry stepped up onto the stage to
squeeze as much money out of his audience as possible, table football
machines, pool tables and Armani suits, all signed by the whole squad,
went under the hammer.

Shirts and posters were also sold to help raise money while CLIC Sargent
patron Fiona Phillips joined in the festivities.
In her first interview since leaving GMTV, Phillips said: 'It is a
brilliant night, it's great see the players out with the fans. JT hasn't
stopped having photos taken, talking to people, signing autographs. They
are all brilliant professionals and great role models for all the children
here.'

First team assistant coach Ray Wilkins added: 'It is fantastic for the
charity, it gives the opportunity for a lot of young kids to come and meet
their heroes as well and obviously we are associated with Armani as well,
so it is two leading brands of the field coming together, which has got to
be good. It is what it is all about.

'Any charity that is working and functioning for anybody is doing great
work; they are doing fantastic work, so it is really important that we
support these people as much as we can,' explained Wilkins.
