That was the night Chelsea came from a first leg deficit to beat the Catalan giants with a breathtaking display of football, goals from Eidur Gudjohnsen, Frank Lampard, Damien Duff and John Terry cancelling out Ronaldinho's two strikes to send the Blues through to the Champions League quarter-finals. That was the night Cole and co. confirmed they well and truly belonged among Europe's elite, already on the march to a first English title in 50 years with a Carling Cup in the bag. That was the night many Chelsea fans still hail as their favourite in recent years, eclipsing otherwise excellent wins against Liverpool and Manchester United. Cole, out for the rest of the season with cruciate ligament damage, is no different and still recalls clearly the events of that evening. 'What a game, we had lost the first leg out there even though we had played quite well. Bella scored an own goal which we like to joke about since he joined,' he said, relaying the details of the 2-1 defeat in Spain that had preceded it. 'The home game was unbelievable, just awesome and people still remember it as one of the best Chelsea games. Everything about it stands out, and the fans were brilliant too. 'We scored early, Eidur who we all remember well banged one in and then Lampsy got the second. I thought I was going to score after I beat Van Bronckhorst who was marking me, but the keeper parried it and Frank was there to score,' said the 26-year-old. http://www.chelseafc.com/javaImages/e0/6b/0,,10268~5860320,00.jpg
Celebrating the third goal with Damien Duff and the bench A third goal followed as Duff raced onto Cole's pass and slotted home, before Barc,a pulled two back to move in front on away goals before half-time. 'They got a penalty back and then Ronaldinho scored that toe-poke from the edge of the box to put them ahead. I hit the post before half-time and remember thinking maybe it wasn't to be,' he smiled. 'We were really going for it in the second half though, Valdes pulled off another save from me before JT's header won it. I still remember celebrating with him afterwards. http://www.chelseafc.com/javaImages/e3/6b/0,,10268~5860323,00.jpg
JT heads home the vital fourth 'It was such a memorable night, beating Barcelona, Collina was even reffing. It really showed we were one of Europe's big teams, we ripped them to pieces in that first half, I think it was one of my best Chelsea games. 'The atmosphere the fans generated that night was just brilliant, I know if things hadn't worked out for me I would have been there, so it was extra special for me to be out there on the pitch. 'Hopefully the boys can do it again on Wednesday night, they are confident and in good form so there is no reason not to. It's a shame for me to miss it but I'll be there supporting them all the way. -- Carefree, wherever we may be We are the famous CFC! -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 118.171.2.221
