DROGBA DEVELOPMENT IN NEW MAGAZINE
Posted on: Fri 11 Sep 2009
Not only can you hear from Didier Drobga in this month's Chelsea magazine
but Carlo Ancelotti answers fans' questions as well.
The latest instalment of the club's official magazine sees our Ivorian
goalscorer on the front cover, and he gives fans an exclusive insight into
the factors that made him a Chelsea legend.
A relatively late starter in football, Drogba gives an honest and frank
opinion on the trials and tribulations of becoming a world-class player.
'It's funny because it wasn't until I was 25 that people noticed me at all
really,' noted Drogba.
He speaks about adapting from amateur football, from which he graduated at
the age of 19, to the professional game and the rigours of his first
season with the Blues, as his family settled into the new London life.
'It was hard for me at that time,' explained Drogba. 'People need to adapt
to everything when they move to a new culture - the food, the people, the
way of life, it's all different.'

Didier Drogba gives an honest account in Chelsea magazine
But now the striker, who has lived in Africa, France and England, is fully
settled in the nation's capital, although not as much as his children.
'My kids speak English much better than me, much better! Family is really
important to me and I wanted to make sure that they were happy because
that can be important in terms of the way you perform.'
Ancelotti then answers the questions posed by readers of Chelsea magazine,
including his most memorable match, hobbies and what piece of advice Carlo
the coach would give Carlo the footballer.
'I would tell him the most important thing is to continue to play with
passion, with enthusiasm and to enjoy football because it is necessary to
do this all through your career,' said the Italian.
After that you can get to grips with Chelsea's new goalkeeper Ross
Turnbull, who recently reached his four-month anniversary with the club.
He explains how ambitions to improve dictated his decision to join the
Blues.
And with a dedication to the Blues spanning over 40 years, Sir Steven
Redgrave adds his Olympic-gold-winning opinion to Chelsea magazine.
Speaking at the star-studded Right to Play Sports Day, Redgrave talks
about his love affair with Chelsea.
The five-time Olympic gold medallist explains what attracted him to the
club. It was during the days of Peter 'The King' Osgood, Charlie Cooke and
Ron 'Chopper' Harris, but someone else drew Redgrave as a young boy, Peter
'The Cat' Bonetti.
'I used to play in goal at school, so I adored him,' exclaims Redgrave.
'Whenever we played I would always be in goal because I wanted to be Peter
Bonetti.'

Sir Steven Redgrave chats with Chelsea magazine
Redgrave talks, among other things, about enduring the 'bad times' during
the Eighties and the decision that took him away from goal and into a
boat, where he put rowing into the public's eye with Olympic domination
lasting 16 years.
Following on from Redgrave's memories of the Eighties, a hero from the
decade gives Chelsea magazine his personal A to Z.
The Scottish winger Pat Nevin discusses everything from youthful
adventures and jinking runs to Indie Music and NME magazine (he was the
first footballer on its cover), exclusively in the club's official
publication.
Chelsea magazine also takes a historical look into the club's past between
1910 and 1920, where the Blues developed both on and off the pitch before
hearing from a potential future player.
Tom Hayden joined the Blues last year and has made his presence felt
inside the Academy, he speaks to Chelsea magazine about his experiences
inside the youth system.
To top if off there's the top ten Champions League group games, as we
prepare to embark on the 2009/10 European campaign, the technical area
informs you how to keep your hamstrings in great shape and there's the
football fan chat with Chelsea's faithful.
