It is a shining example to all aspiring young players at the club of just what can be achieved by a homegrown. As he looks to lead the club to a first win on Portuguese soil that would secure first place in Group D, the skipper has been discussing the importance of another making the big steps forward he did over the past decades. 'It is what Chelsea Football Club have been aiming for ever since I came through the ranks really. I was the last one. 'No-one is getting too carried away and Gael Kakuta still has a lot to prove but he is a great talent along with the likes of Jeffrey Bruma and Fabio Borini who are all doing really well. 'That is good to see for the players and manager but also the fans love to see it. Gael is a really exciting prospect who has just come back from a bad injury as well and to see him come on [against Wolves] and play with the confidence he showed is really encouraging. 'Speaking to the other young lads, they are all encouraged by seeing Gael and Fabio come on in games. The manager has spoken to them and said if you do it on the pitch in reserve games, which he watches, he will have the confidence to put them on the bench or even start them.' Terry agrees it is hard for the new generation at all top clubs when under pressure managers have the funds to buy proven talent rather than take a punt on a youngster when a vacancy or injury occurs. But he urges them to keep striving to improve. 'It is important for not to settle for where you are, thinking great, I am at Chelsea. We speak about them having things too early and it is vital they push on because when you are involved it can be a great time in your life.' Terry believes one of the reasons why there will be openings this season for any player showing good form is the care Carlo Ancelotti takes to make sure his established stars stay in good condition. It is a major reason why the skipper believes the team won't fall away like we did after an equally good start last season. 'The manager is clever in making sure we keep fit and sharp and ready in this busy period. We have a lot games coming up and we have not been training on Sundays, we have had two-day recoveries and things like that, and we are going into games a lot sharper and fitter. The manager is giving people a rest and bringing fresh legs in.' Ancelotti has announced a degree of rotation for tomorrow's game which is expected to be a thorough examination. 'We found when we came here before that it is a difficult place to come,' reports Terry. 'Porto play with a lot of confidence and have the ability to play football and it will be tough. They have many good players going forward. Jose Bosingwa talks about Hulk a lot and he is a very difficult player. I played against him at Stamford Bridge and saw him come on for Brazil against England and he is potentially a very good player - quick and strong and he scores goals.' As well as examining the opposition, there was a personal note from the skipper. 'Playing 300 games as Chelsea captain is a great achievement for myself.
