Mixed news for Sky Blues
Last updated: 29th December 2009
Coventry City have agreed a deal to extend Jack Cork's loan, but Patrick
van Aanholt is going back to Chelsea.
Cork and Van Aanholt have spent the first half of the season on loan at
the Ricoh Arena from Chelsea and Sky Blues boss Chris Coleman wanted to
keep the duo for the remainder of the campaign.
However, while the Premier League leaders have allowed the versatile Cork
to stay with Coventry, Dutch full-back Van Aanholt has been recalled to
Stamford Bridge.
"It's good news about Jack, but unfortunately they want Patrick back,"
Coleman told the Coventry Evening Telegraph. "We've got to say a big
thank you to Chelsea and Patrick for what he's done for us.
"We've enjoyed working with him - he's been a good professional who has
worked very hard and I think he's improved as a player since he's been
with us."
Van Aanholt has made 20 appearances during his time with the Championship
club, with his final outing coming in Monday's 2-0 defeat at in-form
Nottingham Forest.

CHELSEA TV EXCLUSIVE: BLUES RETURN
Posted on: Thu 31 Dec 2009
In an exclusive interview with Chelsea TV tonight, Carlo Ancelotti talks
about the return of Jacob Mellis following a loan spell at Southampton.
The young midfielder will soon return to Chelsea to commence training with
the first team following his loan spell with the Saints, where he
represented the side in League One.
Mellis has started seven games in midfield since beginning his spell with
Southampton, with an additional five appearances as a sub. However, he is
yet to score for his loan side.
In an interview that covered topics from Chelsea's financial situation to
the recent game against Fulham and the side's personality, the club's
official television channel also quizzed our Italian manager on Mellis and
his expected role in 2010.
'We need to have some young players in January and for them it will be an
opportunity to play in the FA Cup and the Premier League,' reported
Ancelotti.
'Mellis is doing very well; I saw a lot of him in pre-season and like
Borini, like Kakuta, he is a very good player,' added the Italian.
Chelsea still have several aspiring players out on loan, including
Miroslav Stoch, Franco Di Santo and Michael Mancienne.
Stoch is making an impact in Dutch football under Steve McClaren's
watchful eye at FC Twente while Di Santo has secured 12 starts at
Blackburn, scoring once, and Patrick van Aanholt has been making an impact
alongside Jack Cork at Coventry.
As well as our on-loan youngsters, Ancelotti also gives the latest on
Nicolas Anelka's return to the first team following injury.
