A trio of awards was handed out at Cobham this week as Didier Drogba won
the Golden Boot and Petr Cech the Golden Gloves.
And Chelsea's record-breaking tally of 103 League goals was also
recognised as Ray Wilkins accepted the Barclays Merit Award on behalf of
the side for being the first team to score 100 goals in a Barclays Premier
League season.
'To win the merit award is a great honour but to score 103 goals in season
is a fantastic achievement and we hope next season we'll be holding award
this having scored 106 goals,' said Wilkins.
Chelsea's record goal-scoring season was helped by netting seven goals on
three occasions and going one better with an eight-goal display to seal
the title against Wigan on the final day of the season. It was the club's
highest win in top-flight football.
Carlo Ancelotti's side stormed past Manchester United's previous mark of
97 goals in the 1999/2000 season. Chelsea is also the first team to break
a century in the English top-flight since Tottenham in 1962/63.
Didier Drogba was central to the club's goal scoring feats throughout the
season, and his personal-best haul of 29 goals in only 32 appearances sees
him claim the Barclays Golden Boot for the second time in his Chelsea
career. He was awarded £1,000 for each goal to go towards his chosen
charity.
'It means a lot to me to win the Barclays Golden Boot because there have
been a lot of difficult matches and the competition was hard with the
likes of Wayne Rooney and the other players,' said Drogba.
'We played well this season. The manager wanted us to play well, score a
lot of goals, improve our football and bring more passion to the game,
which we did,' added the Ivorian.
Petr Cech had a fantastic 2009/10 campaign, keeping 17 clean sheets to
seal the award for a second time. The Czech Republic international
conceded just 26 goals in the Barclays Premier League all season,
providing a foundation for his team's attacking exploits.
'It is always great to win the Barclays Golden Gloves Award because
although it is a personal achievement, it is important to get clean sheets
during the season,' reported Cech. 'All the clean sheets helped us to be
champions and this is the biggest pleasure for me.
'If you don't concede goals you just need to score. This season we have
scored a lot of goals and it is my pleasure to get the award during a
title winning season.'
Liverpool's Pepe Reina also managed 17 clean sheets, but Cech takes the
Barclays Golden Glove due to having a better ratio of clean sheets to
games played.

一個模子刻出來的阿,簡直是老JAMES在電視上走來走去。"
