Philipp Prosenik equalled his goal tally from last season as the Blues
secured a narrow win over Cardiff City.
Chelsea's youth side dominated possession throughout the fixture, which
saw Daniel Pappoe return to action for the first time since the FA Youth
Cup semi-finals last season.
He started the game with the armband while Jamal Blackman took up his
position between the posts.
Prosenik was in the centre of an attacking three which included Milan
Lalkovic and Bobby Devyne, behind them sat Boumesca Na Bangna, Anton
Rodgers and George Saville.
Both sides created chances inside the opening 10 minutes, the first being
Chelsea's when Lalkovic hit the bar from 20 yards out. A mistake from Todd
Kane then gifted Cardiff's Jesse Darko but his lob was denied by a
fully-stretched Blackman.

The Chelsea keeper commanded his area brilliantly, easily gathering a
Cardiff freekick and releasing Lalkovic on the left wing, only for the
subsequent shot to fly into the opposition keeper's arms.
Pappoe then had a header cleared off the line after he connected with a
Rodgers corner to the far post.
Minutes later Chelsea took the lead. When Lalkovic won a freekick on the
right flank, Rodgers' ball to the near post landed for Prosenik to smash
home with ease with 36 minutes played. It was Prosenik's third goal of the
season.
It meant Chelsea went into the break with a lead established, and before
the second-half began, youth team manager Dermot Drummy brought Danny
Stenning on to replace Pappoe.
Ben Sampayo took the armband at left-back while Saville moved into central
defence. Stenning took up his position in midfield.
Despite Chelsea controlling possession throughout, the second half was a
fairly uneventful affair, with Devyne (pictured below) and Prosenik coming
closest to finding the net.

Devyne's chance came after Lalkovic and Prosenik teamed up well on the
right to release Rodgers in space. The resultant cross fell towards the
near post where Devyne headed into the keeper's arms.
Prosenik then drilled a left-footed shot towards the bottom corner only
for Cardiff's shot-stopper to deflect it past his post and out for a
corner.
The game ended 1-0 to Chelsea, with Cardiff failing to threaten the Blues'
goal.
'It's not a pretty win but it's better than a pretty defeat,' said Drummy
after the game.
'When teams sit back you have to make your plays early and we still need
to improve on that but we continued to play for 90 minutes and we ground
out a result today.'
