YOUTH REPORT: TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR 4 CHELSEA 2
Posted on: Sun 19 Sep 2010
Chelsea came back from a two-goal deficit to draw level with Tottenham
before succumbing in the dying stages of the game.
Bobby Devyne and Todd Kane (pictured) each pulled a goal back in the
second half after hosts Tottenham netted a brace during the first.
But despite Jamal Blackman saving a penalty late on, after clipping a
Tottenham player's feet inside the box, the hosts managed to net another
two before the game ended to secure three points.
Dermot Drummy gave school boy Alex Davey a debut in defence, where he
lined-up alongside Ben Sampayo, George Saville and Amin Affane.
Tottenham took their first-half goals well, building on advantages given
when the Blues failed to close down their attacking play.
The first goal came when Spurs penetrated down the left flank. A shot from
just inside the box then found the back of the net.
The second goal came from the same mistakes made on the right, when
Tottenham's number 10 was able to break through the midfield without being
challenged. He then set up another strike from just inside the box minutes
before the break.
The Blues struck back. The first came from Kane after he found space at
the far post to neatly tap home a cross from the right.
Then Kane sent a brilliant 40-yard through ball for Devyne to latch on to.
He in turn finished with style to make the game 2-2.
Tottenham had another chance to go ahead when the referee pointed to the
penalty spot after a challenge from Blackman which ended with him bringing
a player down and receiving a yellow card, but the Chelsea shot-stopper
predicted the direction of the ball and denied Spurs' number 9.
The home side went back ahead with a good individual goal from Alex
Pritchard, his second of the game, and the other came from Kudus Oyenuga,
who found the net from the edge of the box. It was also his second goal of
the clash.
'The fourth goal came as we tried to get another equaliser and maybe
opened ourselves up a bit too much,' explained Drummy.
'The first two were defensive errors on the right and left, we just let
them dribble through the midfield for the second, but we showed good
spirit to come back into the game in the second half.
'There are still improvements to be made but we can be happy with the way
we came back, we must work for the full 90 minutes though,' he added.
