ANCELOTTI: A MANAGER'S LIFE

While Carlo Ancelotti was out on the training pitch on Friday morning
preparing for the start of the FA Cup campaign, Sunday's opponents Ipswich
were announcing the departure of their manager Roy Keane.
Regardless of how that change might affect on-pitch matters during the
third-round tie, Ancelotti is saddened that his path will not cross with
Keane's at Stamford Bridge.
The Chelsea manager has not forgotten one night in Turin in 1999 when the
now-departed Ipswich manager was still a Manchester United player.
'I was excited about the chance to meet Roy Keane for a long time because
I was the manager of Juventus when he gave me disappointment because he
scored in the semi-final of the Champions League,' Ancelotti said.
'Now I don't have the chance to meet him and I am sorry for this because
when a manager loses his job it is not a good moment, but this is the life
of the manager. The manager has to be able to cope with this moment. It is
not good but hopefully he can move forward quickly.'
Keane was the first manager to lose his job after the League Managers'
Association used the term 'scapegoat' in the wake of recent dismissals for
their members. Ancelotti took up the subject.
'In football, usually we say when everything is okay the players are
fantastic and when everything is wrong it is the manager who is not so
good,' he smiled.
'But we know this. When the moment is not so good the manger has to take
more responsibility than the others. At the moment I feel more
responsibility than my players and this is normal, this is not a worry for
me.'
Ancelotti's remaining preparations for the Ipswich game include testing
the fitness of Didier Drogba, Michael Essien and Ashley Cole during
training on Saturday.

Drogba suffered a knock in Friday's training and the other two are nursing
knocks suffered in the Wolves game on Wednesday.
Still out are John Mikel Obi (knee), Yury Zhirkov (calf) and Yossi
Benayoun (achilles).

Alex today returned to Cobham following knee surgery in Brazil. His
rehabilitation is expected to take another three to four weeks.

Ancelotti may not be meeting with Keane, but he is still looking forward
to getting another cup campaign underway.
'The good thing is in the FA Cup and the Champions League we don't have a
gap to close. We have the same possibility as the other teams and maybe
this could give to us plenty of motivation.'
