ZHIRKOV UP AND RUNNING

Yury Zhirkov has spoken of his relief after returning to the first-team
fold after three months out.
The Russian international made his comeback as a substitute in extra-time
against Everton last weekend before playing for the final few minutes in
Copenhagen on Tuesday and is now focusing on playing his way into Carlo
Ancelotti's side after his calf injury.
'It is good to be back among my team-mates after some frustrating months
in the treatment room, but now I am looking to the future and want to play
an important part in the squad,' he said. 'I have a contract until 2013
and I hope to play a big role.
'It took longer than I wanted for me to get fit again but now I am back I
want to show everyone that I can be an important player for Chelsea. We
are still competing for trophies and have a lot of important matches where
the full squad will be needed so I want to play my part.'
Zhirkov, 27, was expected to be missing for only a couple of weeks when he
first sustained the problem but complications kept him sidelined for 17
games as we slipped from top to fifth in the Barclays Premier League table,
though after Tuesday's win in Denmark we remain in a strong position in
the Champions League.
'Coming back against Everton gave me a great feeling, and although we lost
on penalties it gave me confidence to be back on the pitch,' said the
former CSKA Moscow man.
'Now we have to look forward and concentrate on the games ahead of us
because it could still be a very successful season for Chelsea.'
