The victory moves us closer to league leaders Arsenal, with games in hand, and came after we got the better of a physical encounter, securing a second successive clean sheet. The goals came within five minutes of each other during a first-half spell that suggested Chelsea could be rampant, only for a little overexpansion at critical times to prevent further goals. Ten minutes in Lalkovic had the game's first sight of goal, and should have done better when through on goal, but was denied by the onrushing Blackburn goalkeeper, Jake Kean. Tore in action for the reserves At the other end Thomas Hitchcock, son of former Chelsea goalkeeper Kevin, headed wide from close range. Blackburn's Anthony O' Connor had the keeper to thank when he almost diverted Phillip's low cross into his own net, but it would not be long before Chelsea edged in front. Gokhan Tore had made a subdued start to the game on the right wing, but burst into life on 26 minutes, cutting inside past two challenges, checking, and firing low and hard into the bottom corner on his weaker right foot. Five minutes later George Saville slipped Lalkovic through, the Slovakian showing he had learned his lesson from early on and shooting early past the goalkeeper, in off the post to double the lead. Blackburn, to their credit, continued to look for a goal, and worked Chelsea's Jan Sebek a couple of times before the break but the Blues looked in control despite having less of the ball than they are used to. At half-time Rohan Ince made a competitive return after injury, replacing Nathaniel Chalobah in the centre of defence. Phillip shoots for Chelsea reserves Ince showed his strength inside the centre-circle, winning possession before releasing Phillip down the left. His ball inside found Kaby, but the goalkeeper blocked the shot with his feet. A James Knowles diving header called Sebek into action once more, though the save was comfortable, and Michael Potts sliced over as Blackburn struggled for a way back into the game. As the second half progressed Chelsea became more at ease, though over-complicating a passing move between Sebek and Kaby almost proved costly, the keeper just able to leave his box and clear to prevent Rovers pulling a goal back. By searching for a goal Blackburn were leaving themselves open at the back, and it was a surprise that Chelsea did not add to the score, given the pace and invention possessed by this exciting group of youngsters. Osayamen Osawe fired over and Hugo Fernandez Moline wide late on for the visitors, but by then Chelsea's points, and a seventh game unbeaten were well wrapped up. Next for the second string is a home game with West Bromwich Albion a week on Thursday, before going away to Manchester United in a fortnight's time.
