LOAN INTEREST
Posted on: Mon 09 May 2011
The regular Football League season came to an end this weekend, though
there are still a few Chelsea players out on loan with work to do over the
next couple of weeks.
Gael Kakuta netted his first Fulham goal away at Sunderland last weekend,
slipping the ball past Simon Mignolet after beating two men inside the
area to open the scoring in a 3-0 win.

The Frenchman played an hour before being subbed, in only his second
Fulham start. They host Liverpool tonight, and 19-year-old Kakuta will be
hoping to be in the line-up once more.
Daniel Sturridge sat out Bolton's 1-0 defeat against Blackburn last
weekend but returned to face Sunderland this weekend, hitting the crossbar
in a 2-1 loss.
Michael Mancienne's blunder cost Wolves a win at home to Birmingham last
weekend but he kept his place for Sunday's 3-1 win against West Brom,
which gives his temporary side a real chance of Premier League survival.
They have two games remaining, and are a point above the relegation zone
with games against Sunderland and Blackburn to come.

Mancienne - with Wolves
In the Championship, there will be play-off football for Fabio Borini
after his Swansea City side finished the season third. They will meet
Nottingham Forest over two legs for a place at Wembley, where they would
meet either Cardiff City or Reading.
The Italian striker was a substitute in last week's 2-0 win at Millwall
before heading across London to watch us beat Spurs, but returned to the
side for this weekend's 4-0 demolition of Sheffield United. The striker
did not score, and so has six goals from his eight Swansea starts.
Daniel Philliskirk was a Sheffield United sub in that game, the Blades
having already been relegated into the third tier of English football.
Philliskirk played the final half-hour, his third appearance towards the
end of the season.
There was relegation also for Ben Gordon, who could not prevent Scunthorpe
United dropping down. The Chelsea man was an unused sub in their 1-1 draw
at home to Portsmouth on Saturday, a result which sees them finish bottom
of the table.
The 20-year-old made 14 Scunthorpe appearances since joining on loan at
the end of January.
Jack Cork completed his season with Burnley with a 1-1 draw at home to
Cardiff, his 46th appearance of the season for The Clarets, who finished
eighth, two places above Leicester City who have had both Jeffrey Bruma
and Patrick van Aanholt for the latter part of the season.
The Foxes completed their season with a 4-2 home win against Ipswich Town,
Bruma conceding a penalty through handball, while Van Aanholt gifted Town
possession for their second goal, before making amends by helping creating
Leicester's fourth goal.

Bruma appeared 11 times in total for Sven Goran Eriksson's side, scoring
two thunderbolts against Watford, Van Aanholt played 12, scoring once.
Jacob Mellis started two further games for Barnsley since our last update,
helping them to four points as they finished the season in a creditable
17th spot, the Chelsea man scoring twice in 15 outings.
In League Two there was huge cause for celebration for Sam Walker at the
weekend. His first Barnet clean sheet contributed to a 1-0 against Port
Vale win that kept them in the Football League. the 6ft 5ins goalkeeper
made an important late stop at the feet of a forward. In seven games, he
lost just once, and won four times.

There was also a good end to the season for Welsh Under 21 goalkeeper Rhys
Taylor, who having kept a clean sheet for Crewe against Stockport in their
penultimate game, was a 5-1 winner away at Bradford this weekend. The
21-year-old played all but two league games for Alex, and 49 times in
total.
With one game remaining in the Dutch Eredivisie, Vitesse Arnhem sit 14th
out of 18 sides, and well clear of relegation after a poor start to the
season had left them struggling.
Nemanja Matic (who is due to join Benfica at the end of the season) played
72 minutes of their 2-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven last weekend, his 27th
league appearance of the season, but Slobodan Rajkovic (23 appearances)
missed out and Matej Delac (awaiting debut) was an unused substitute.
We will of course keep you up to date with the remaining fixtures for our
on-loan players over the coming weeks.
