However Gael Kakuta and France remain in Colombia for the semi-finals. Spain made the quarter-final stage via a penalty shoot-out but another bout of spot-kicks brought about their downfall against Brazil. In normal play Brazil scored in the first half, Spain almost equalised with an Oriol shot on 29 minutes which was well saved, before they did find the net in the second half. The Brazilians took the lead again in the first period of extra time but their advantage lasted just two minutes. Oriol, who took the final penalty in the previous round, did not get as far as taking one this time as Spain had two saved to lose 4-2 in the shootout. Oriol played the full game. Earlier in the day Gael Kakuta was involved in a quarter-final of dramatic late twists and turns. The French looked to have their progress ensured with a third minute of stoppage time being played and a goal to their name. The Chelsea player had joined in the 78th minute with his side already ahead. But then Nigeria equalised with just 10 seconds remaining to take the game into extra time. France were soon 3-1 ahead, the second of those strikes made by a fine Kakuta pass, and although the African side scored again, this time there was to be no late reprise. France now play Portugal in the semi-final on Wednesday. Gael Kakuta began the match on the bench and was introduced on 61 minutes, by which stage the French, European champions at Under 19 level last summer, were already two down. The first goal went in after nine minutes with a penalty following on 40 minutes. Kakuta isn't coming home just yet though. France play Mexico in a third/fourth place play-off. Houghton played the full 90 minutes for his country, while Swift and Dabo joined in the second-half, replacing goalscorer Jack Jebb and Chuba Akpom respectively. A Jebb header from a Callum Robinson cross sealed England the FA International Tournament trophy for a second consecutive year. The Three Lions started the Tournament with a 1-0 win over Italy on Wednesday, before a tight 1-0 defeat against Czech Republic on Friday. Houghton played 90 minutes against Italy and was a 41st minute substitute against Czech Republic. Swift and Dabo both started in that defeat, although Dabo came off after 62 minutes.
