It was a result few people could have foreseen, and even less so when we took the lead midway through the first half thanks to a Didier Drogba penalty. For the second game in succession though, we were unable to hold on to our advantage for more than just a few minutes, and after Stephen Ireland equalised before the break, two goals in the last 10 minutes, by Stiliyan Petrov and Darren Bent, made it a disappointing end to 2011. 'In terms of the Wolves game, the easy part is motivation,' says Villas-Boas. 'We don't have to wait long and it's a chance to put things right, in the sense of psychological motivation it's a plus. 'What we need right now is points, at the moment it's not good enough; three points from four matches is not to Chelsea's standard and we want to avoid having a period like we did last year. 'We need to get the three points and show our strength of character and belief, because it will depend a lot on motivation as physically the players will be exhausted.' The festive period has historically been a difficult time of the year for every team given the fact there is very little time for rest and recovery due to the demands of a gruelling fixture list. When injuries are collected, as they have with a few players in recent weeks, it can become even more demanding, and while Villas-Boas is not looking for preferential treatment for his side, he is eager for fairness and consistency to be applied right across the board. 'I have the greatest respect for the traditions of the festive period in this country but what I don't think is fair is for the calendar to be spread in the way it has been. We play again within 48 hours and it should be the same for every club,' he argues. 'Most of the clubs are playing within this period but not all of them; if we have to go through this really strenuous period it should be the same for everybody and I don't think it's fair the way that it is at the moment. 'Normally the second day for any player [after a game] is the worst day in terms of recovery so the risks of injury are tremendous. It's a difficult situation, I know the players have done it in the past but it's a risky situation that can lead to career threatening injuries.' Having made a fantastic start to December with three straight wins, there has been a notable dip in recent weeks as the year drew to a close, and having failed to register a victory in our last four Barclays Premier League matches it is imperative we begin 2012 in the right manner. On the positive side, there is still plenty left to play for this season and the manager will be looking for his side to reproduce the type of form which enabled us to see off Newcastle, Valencia and Manchester City only a few weeks ago. 'It's fair to say that we haven't been getting the performances that enable us to win games recently,' he says. 'The signs were there earlier in December but at the moment they are not so we have to take that on board. 'We need to come together because we have two trophies left to play for; one is the most prestigious cup competition in England [the FA Cup] and one is the most prestigious in Europe [the Champions League], so we need to get results and show the quality we have.' -- KTBFFH -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 114.39.150.232
