DI MATTEO: EXCITEMENT AHEAD

Roberto Di Matteo admits it is something of a relief to have a game to
prepare for on Wednesday evening as he readies his men for the forthcoming
season.
Experiences for the players in Seattle so far have been limited to double
training sessions at the Seahawks training base, and the manager feels
competitive action against improving opposition will bring added focus.

'We're looking forward to playing tomorrow night, we've been training for
a while and the game just wakes those nerves a bit and brings excitement
for the players,' said the Italian.
'The experience so far has been excellent. The training facilities are very
good and we've been able to train twice a day for the first two days. The
weather has been pretty good as well, not too hot, not too cold and it's
perfect for pre-season.

'Pre-season friendly games are important to transfer what we are doing in
training. It's a physical test, and we're still trying to increase our
physical performance. The freshness won't be there yet but we will try to
set our stamp on our first games and try to develop that.

'I've watched the Sounders a little bit and know their system of play. I
followed the game they had against Red Bulls on Monday, and we have
information about them.'

Indeed Di Matteo has clearly done his homework on our opponents, who are
currently third in the MLS Western Conference.
'It's one of the best supported MLS teams in the States, with 34,000 season
ticket holders, and a great fan base,' he said. 'I know about the fans
walking to the stadium all together, a great gesture, and the manager [Sigi
Schmid] is one of the best around in the United States.
'We obviously know Eddie Johnson a bit better than the other players,
Morales and Hernandez, and it will be interesting to play them.'
Pre-season has allowed Di Matteo to assess the quality of many younger
players at his disposal, and he admits he is as yet undecided what their
involvement will be once the Premier League season starts next month.

'Pre-season gives me a great opportunity to see these players in training
and competitive games. The final decision who will go out on loan and who
will stay will be made at the beginning of August, the first week maybe,'
he explained. 'It depends on the needs of the squad and we will make
decisions later on.

'We can only name 25 in the squad so we will have to get the balance right
in the team for the forthcoming season and make decisions then.'

Florent Malouda has joined up with the squad on Tuesday lunchtime, and he
has been linked with a move to South America, but the coach is happy to
see him with the group in Seattle.

'Players are now slowly returning, Malouda was back today and we expect
the others to come when we are on the east coast.
'I still haven't had a chance to speak to Florent, so I need to speak to
him first and see what his intentions are, then we will see what the best
interests are for him and the club.
還沒有機會和馬盧達聊聊，聊過之後才能做出最好的決定。
'At the moment I am very happy with the squad. We have a good squad, a
very good team and have new players with us already. Our job is to try and
integrate them into a team that was very successful last season.'
目前還是對陣容很滿意的。
Di Matteo was also asked about Oscar, the Brazilian midfielder currently
in London for the Olympics, who has been linked with a move to Stamford
Bridge.
最後談到在倫敦備戰奧運的奧斯卡。
'I can tell you that he's not a Chelsea player so it's difficult for me to
talk about a player that doesn't belong to us,' he said. 'I know there has
been speculation we are interested in this player and in due course if
there is anything to announce we will do. All I would say is that he is a
very young talented midfield player.'
雖然還不是我們的球員沒什麼好聊的，不過他是個天才中場。
This afternoon the team trains at CenturyLink Field for the first time,
with fans invited to attend and see the Blues up close. Then it will be a
night of rest before tomorrow's tour opener.
