== Summary ==
The youth team recorded an impressive league win at an overcast Cobham
courtesy of goals from Kasey Palmer, Charlie Colkett, Ike Ugbo and Mukhtar
Ali.
Palmer headed home Ola Aina's delivery from the left midway through the
first half, before Colkett (pictured above) grabbed a second shortly after
the restart, and Ugbo provided the finish at the end of a great
counter-attacking move shortly after.
Sam Bailey pulled one back for the visitors with a thundering effort that
bounced over the line via the underside of the crossbar, though it was Ali
who provided the finishing action with a great strike from 25 yards that
flew into the far corner.
== Team news ==
With four games across seven days for the Academy, including the FA Youth
Cup semi-final first-leg against Arsenal on Thursday 10 April, it was a
young side that started for Adi Viveash, with only two second-year
scholars.
Five of those who began last weekend's away draw at Manchester United were
involved from the start as Bradley Collins continued in goal and George
Brady, Jordan Houghton and Ola Aina comprised three of the back four,
along with Under-15 Trevoh Chalobah.
Charlie Colkett captained the side from midfield alongside schoolboys
Ruben Sammut and Isaac Christie-Davies, while Chike Kandi led the line up
front supported from out wide by Kasey Palmer and Ike Ugbo.
== First half ==
The game began at a quick tempo as both sides looked to acquire an early
advantage. Palmer shot over for the hosts inside a couple of minutes
before William Abbotts fired narrowly wide for Bolton.
Colkett was heavily involved for the hosts throughout the early exchanges,
linking up play cleverly in the no. 10 role while also carrying a threat
of his own in front of goal. First he hit a free-kick into the wall after
Aina was fouled 25 yards out, then he brought a comfortable save from
Harry Campbell in the Wanderers goal as he connected well to strike on the
half-volley.
Christopher Cvetko struck an arrowing driven free-kick from 35 yards that
flew narrowly wide of Collins's far post, before the deadlock was broken
midway through the half. Full-back Aina powered away from tracking
defenders down the left wing before clipping an inviting ball into the box
that Palmer nodded past Campbell for his seventh goal of the campaign.

Bolton responded positively and Collins had to be agile to get down low
and pull off a strong save from Cvetko, while down the other end Campbell
denied Palmer a second goal with a similar stop (pictured below). Kandi
fired over and Jordan Hendale shot narrowly wide after beating a couple of
defenders in the last couple of minutes of the half.
== Second half ==
There was a double change for the hosts at the interval as Faiq Bolkiah
and Mukhtar Ali replaced Aina and Palmer for the second period. Ugbo
tested Campbell with a couple of early efforts before the Chelsea doubled
the lead 12 minutes after the restart. Colkett picked up a loose ball and
exchanged neatly with Ali before finishing confidently into the far bottom
corner for his fourth goal of the season.
It was a settling goal for the young Blues and they soon extended their
advantage again after a wonderful counter-attacking move forward. Ali fed
Bolkiah in the middle of the field and the substitute spread the ball out
neatly to Kandi down the right flank. His driven cross found Ugbo and the
schoolboy took a touch and finished into the bottom corner for his first
goal at Under-18 level.

Chelsea were keen to manage the game with spells of controlled possession
in the remaining half hour, though Brady had to block well from Elliott
Newby before Sam Bailey found Abbotts with a great delivery from the right
but the striker couldn't quite connect and Collins smothered.
Collins denied Carl Kennedy bravely after a pass through from substitute
Saul Hamer before Campbell made an impressive save from Ali to turn the
ball behind. He then denied Houghton's header.
Wanderers pulled a goal back with five minutes remaining as Bailey's
effort thundered off the crossbar and bounced over the line, though it was
the hosts with the final standout action as Ali struck a great effort from
25 yards that the goalkeeper could do little to stop flying past him.
Next up for the Academy is an Under-21 league game against Liverpool at
Aldershot this Monday 7 April.
