After starting the game as the lone striker, Bamford, 20, broke the deadlock in our 5-0 victory at Wycombe Wanderers with a sweet left-footed volley, expertly guiding Nathan Ake's cross into the far corner. Three days later he started our second friendly against AFC Wimbledon, where the Blues were forced to come from behind to win. 'I was happy with the way the first game went, in the second I didn't really get into the match but it was all about getting another 45 minutes under my belt and I'm always happy to put on the Chelsea shirt at any time,' he tells the official Chelsea website. 'It's always nice, especially as a striker, to score. It was good to start pre-season well, I was hoping to kick on and score a second, it didn't turn out that way but hopefully I can get a few more over the next three matches. 'The manager said I sniffed out the chance and finished it well so that was nice.' The group has been strengthened in recent days with the arrival of new signings Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Filipe Luis, as well as returning duo Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta. For a young striker such as Bamford, who impressed during loan spells at MK Dons and Derby County last season, the opportunity to train alongside international forwards is one he attempts to make the most out of. 'It's great watching them and you can learn a lot just from playing with them, watching the way they protect the ball and that type of thing,' he explains. 'Playing with top players always helps improve your own game, so it's great to also have the likes of Cesc Fabregas here as well. 'You can always pick up little tips to help your own game. Obviously there are certain things other players can do that I can't, because of the difference in style and body shape, but I'm always trying to learn. For example, I've been watching the way they play with their back to goal, Diego is so strong and looks really good, so hopefully I can take something from what I've seen in training.' Tonight the Blues take on local side WAC RZ Pellets, and Bamford believes a positive approach to the game from the home side could play into our hands. 'It might suit us more when both teams try to play football. Against Wimbledon in particular it was difficult because they stuck everybody behind the ball and that's hard to break down,' he says. 'It can be a very stop-start game when it's like that but hopefully tonight we'll see some free-flowing football and hopefully I'll get a few chances as well.'
