U18聯賽第12輪精華 http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2014/11/ under-18-report--chelsea-3-arsenal-0.html Under-18 report: Chelsea 3 Arsenal 0 Fri, 21 Nov 2014 Victory at Cobham this afternoon (Friday) extended our youth team's lead at the top of the league. Dominic Solanke scored inside 10 minutes before Tammy Abraham added a second midway through the first half. Joe Edwards' team continued to dominate in the second period and Solanke secured the victory in the closing stages with a neat finish from close range. == Team news == There were seven changes from the side that started last week's 3-2 win over Fulham as a break in the Under-21 programme allowed many of Adi Viveash's group to feature. Fikayo Tomori and Jay Dasilva continued in defence alongside Jake Clarke-Salter and Ola Aina, with Bradley Collins returning from injury to start in goal. Solanke led the line up front supported from out wide by Izzy Brown and the youth team's top goalscorer Abraham, while Kyle Scott, Charly Musonda and captain Charlie Colkett comprised the midfield trio. == First half == The Blues set the early tempo and were rewarded for their positivity in the early exchanges as they grabbed an eighth-minute lead. A neat exchange of quick passes fashioned some time and space for Brown to slide a forward pass to Solanke, and the striker produced a confident low finish to beat Ryan Huddart and notch his seventh goal of the campaign. The subsequent quarter of an hour was well-contested but short of clear-cut opportunities, with both sides working hard to put pressure on those in possession, particularly in midfield areas. Yet a counter-attacking move of real quality proved decisive after 25 minutes as the hosts doubled their lead. From a throw-in deep in their own half, the Blues worked the ball out quickly and Colkett led a determined charge forward with plenty of numbers in support. He opted to shift the ball to Abraham on the right and the forward rounded off a sublime move with an emphatic finish beyond Huddart. It was his 18th goal of an impressive goalscoring campaign to date. Musonda's drive was held comfortably by Huddart before Arsenal fashioned a great chance to reduce the deficit. Dan Crowley's quick thinking fed in Stephy Mavididi and the striker showed strength and pace to beat Clarke-Salter to the byline and cut a dangerous ball back towards Aaron Eyoma. The wideman had supported the attack well however his final effort was dragged wide of the far post. == Second half == Collins was called into action early after the restart as he held Crowley's rising strike comfortably, yet it was Chelsea looking most likely to snatch another goal as they attacked with intensity and purpose time and again. Brown's dipping half-volley was palmed behind by Huddart and then Solanke headed the resulting corner narrowly wide of the far post, while a period of pinball in the visitors' penalty box saw Brown's close-range shot blocked and then a ricochet off Musonda somehow miss the target. After losing a two-goal lead last week against Fulham, the hosts were eager to learn from their mistakes and protect their advantage, while also seeking to add a decisive third goal. Clarke-Salter blocked bravely from Mavididi's close-range effort after a deep cross to the back post caused problems, however the league leaders soon extended their lead after 70 minutes. An incisive attack was started by Aina as he fired an excellent ball into substitute Kasey Palmer's path down the right flank. The midfielder galloped clear before delivering a perfect low cross for Solanke in space in the middle and the striker had the simple task of prodding the ball beyond a helpless Huddart. Tomori created a chance for himself and fired narrowly beyond the far upright in the closing exchanges, yet the Blues were comfortable to see out the game with their advantage and extended their lead at the top of the Southern section of the Under-18 Premier League with the victory. Next up for the youth team is a trip to Southampton next Friday 28 November. Meanwhile, our Under-19 side resume their UEFA Youth League campaign on Tuesday as they travel to face Schalke. == Manager reaction == Joe Edwards reflected after the game on lessons learned from his side's last league outing and an important clean sheet to go alongside another victory and an impressive display. Speaking to the official Chelsea website, he said: 'I'm delighted with the result and the performance today. It's important to keep a clean sheet and it's something we've spoken about this week after the Fulham game. 'We were in a similar position today to last week where we had a 2-0 lead, were playing lots of good football and seemed in control and then Arsenal looked like they might get something, but obviously today we went on to get that third goal and also keep the clean sheet.' The manager also admitted his team selection was partly with the imminent FA Youth Cup third round trip to Leeds United in mind and he stressed how every one of his players was fighting hard for a place in the team for that highly-anticipated clash. 'We had a few different faces involved compared to last week and, with the Youth Cup around the corner, we wanted to resemble a little bit the team that could play at Leeds. There's a lot of competition for places and the boys that started today knew they had to make a statement to hold on to their places. We tried a couple of new things and we were pleased with how that looked and the clean sheet reflects on how you defend as a team and not just a back four and goalkeeper. 'We played away at Arsenal earlier in the season and despite it being quite an even game they had some individual quality that really hurt us and we were on the end of a bit of a beating. We wanted to put that right today and the most pleasing thing for me was our discipline and work-rate without the ball. To nullify a strong Arsenal team with a lot of second-years involved to just a couple of shots from distance shows the quality and structure of the team today.'
