http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2015/01/ fa-youth-cup-report--chelsea-v-swansea-city.html FA Youth Cup Report: Chelsea 6 Swansea City 0 Wed, 28 Jan 2015 Our Under-18s booked their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup with a comprehensive home victory this evening (Wednesday). Tammy Abraham netted twice in the first half before Dominic Solanke struck less than a minute after the restart to put the holders firmly in control of the fifth-round tie. Abraham then completed his hat-trick with a close-range finish before substitute Kasey Palmer and a second for Solanke rounded off another impressive night for the youth team. The Blues will now face a trip to either Sunderland or Newcastle United in the last eight. == Team news == Joe Edwards made just one change from the 6-1 victory over Huddersfield Town in the fourth round as Kyle Scott replaced the absent Izzy Brown. Scott started in the no.10 role in midfield alongside captain Charlie Colkett and Charly Musonda. The back five remained unchanged as Bradley Collins continued in goal, protected by a defence of Ola Aina, Fikayo Tomori, Jake Clarke-Salter and Jay Dasilva. Dominic Solanke, with four goals in two Cup ties this term, led the line up front supported by Jeremie Boga and Tammy Abraham. == First half == Chelsea, the Youth Cup holders, started the tie strongly and signalled their intent straight from kick-off. They enjoyed a five-minute spell of possession in which the Swans barely touched the ball. Lewis Thomas in the visiting goal warmed his gloves as he collected Colkett's inswinging free-kick and then saved twice from Solanke, the latter a clever shot on the turn. Chelsea were rewarded for the bright start after 14 minutes as they grabbed the opening goal. Scott and Dasilva were involved in the sharp build-up play before Abraham received a pass on the edge of the box and turned smartly to fire low beyond Thomas into the bottom far corner. The Welshmen had the opportunity to respond instantly as Stephen Fallon advanced into a dangerous position down the right but his effort was sliced wide of the near post. However, both goalkeepers were keeping busy on a chilly night and Thomas saved again from Colkett before Collins denied Daniel James at his near post. The ball was in the back of the net again before the interval as Abraham turned the loose ball in on the rebound following Scott's saved shot, although a raised flag from the linesman ruled it out. Yet the hosts did double their advantage in stoppage time as Abraham received the ball from Scott once again and drilled in a powerful effort that squirmed past Thomas and into the back of the net via the underside of the bar. == Second half == It took less than 30 seconds after the restart to extend the lead and take control of the tie. Abraham laid the ball off invitingly to Solanke and the striker held off a challenge before providing a delicate chipped finish to beat the onrushing goalkeeper. It was his fifth Youth Cup goal of the season and 23rd in all competitions. Swansea refused to be dispirited by the goal and came close to reducing the deficit through striker Owain Jones. The frontman raced clear onto a forward pass from Adnan Maric and looked to have beaten Collins but for an excellent stop from the Chelsea goalkeeper as he changed direction late on. Collins thwarted Jones again at his near post but the Blues weathered Swansea's response and were soon pushing for a fourth goal. Solanke fired straight at Thomas following Aina's cutback and then both Palmer and Tomori shot wide before Abraham sealed his hat-trick. The Blues took a quick free-kick and advanced swiftly, with Dasilva providing the low centre for Abraham to poke home from close range. That was the last involvement for the forward but it didn't signal the end of Chelsea's goalscoring intentions and they soon scored a fifth. Substitute Palmer rode two challenges as he drove towards goal and then finished confidently into the corner of the net. There was still time left to replicate the tally of six goals from the last round as Solanke notched his second of the evening with a low finish from the right. That put the gloss on the scoreline after another impressive FA Youth Cup night. == Manager reaction == Joe Edwards spoke after the game about his satisfaction with progressing to the quarter-finals but noted there is still plenty of room for improvement among his players as they look to continue the defence of their Youth Cup crown. 'We started well but I think that comfortable start dragged us into a little bit of a false sense of security,' he told the official Chelsea website. 'We let Swansea into the game more than we should have done and they showed more threat on the break than Huddersfield in the last round, but I felt we could be doing a lot more. 'It's another learning curve for us; a few players weren't as aggressive and on the front foot with their decision-making and passing as in the last game, but we addressed that quite strongly at half-time and came out with a different performance in the second half. 'Brad has made some fantastic saves for us. Clean sheets are things you can celebrate at times but other times you mustn't let them paper over the mistakes you're making and we can definitely reflect on that because I expect the quarter-final to be a much tougher game.' The Under-18s are next in action on Saturday as they travel to Aston Villa in a top-of-the-league meeting in the southern section of the Under-18 Premier League. Meanwhile, Under-21 action comes to Stamford Bridge on Monday 2 February as Adi Viveash's side host league leaders Southampton.
