Miro Muheim had fired Joe Edwards' team ahead after three minutes, but second-half goals from Jake Sheppard and Andrija Novakovich gave the Royals all three points to take home to Berkshire. However, with first place in the south section already secured, the game provided an opportunity for younger members of the Academy to step up as six schoolboys featured over the 90 minutes. == Team news == There were four changes from the side that clinched top spot in the Under-18 Premier League south section last week at Fulham as Mitchell Beeney, George Brady, Charlie Wakefield and Hubert Adamczyk all came into the starting team. Beeney was protected in goal by a back four containing three schoolboys as Cole Dasilva, Josh Grant and Richard Nartey lined up alongside Brady in defence. Ruben Sammut and Mukhtar Ali continued in midfield, while Under-16 Jacob Maddox pushed on to make a front four alongside Adamczyk, Miro Muheim and Wakefield. == First half == The young Blues came into the game on the back of four straight league wins and unbeaten in all competitions since a defeat at Reading at the start of November, a run stretching to 14 games. Having ensuring they could not be caught at the top of the league with a 2-1 victory at Fulham last week, the hosts began the game brightly and grabbed an early lead. With just three minutes on the clock, Wakefield embarked on a dazzling run from the right flank that beat a host of defenders before he teed up the supporting Muheim on the left. The Swiss youth international provided the finish, slotting the ball underneath goalkeeper Dan Ward to net his seventh goal of the campaign. Reading almost responded instantly as Axel Andresson's header from a right-sided free-kick looped onto the crossbar and behind, before Andrija Novakovich fired wide of the near post after good work to bring the ball into a shooting position. Jake Sheppard was presented with a good opportunity to test Beeney after half an hour following a forward pass that released him in behind the Chelsea defence, however his low drive was a couple of feet wide of the far post. Ali warmed Ward's hands with a free-kick as Edwards' side went in with a slender lead at the break. == Second half == The Royals started the second period strongly and, following a spell of early pressure, they restored parity in the game after seven minutes. Sheppard received a pass from Novakovich 25 yards from goal and he arrowed a good effort into the bottom corner. The goal gave the visitors confidence to continue imposing themselves on the game and, after 62 minutes, they had completed the comeback. Novakovich, lurking dangerously on the shoulder of the last defender, received a forward pass and advanced towards goal. His feinted shot took Grant and Beeney out of the game and the forward was left with the simple task of finding the back of the net. Chelsea responded to falling behind just as Reading had in the first half as Sammut's header from a left-sided corner thumped the crossbar with Ward beaten. The game was now more open than it had been all morning, and Sheppard went close to extending the visitors' lead with a low shot across goal that whistled inches wide. The action became end-to-end in the final 10 minutes but neither side could add to the goalscoring as Ward saved from Adamczyk and then substitute Ike Ugbo, while Novakovich worked Beeney down the other end. The youth team play the final game of their regional league programme next Saturday 28 February as Tottenham visit Cobham. Before then, Adi Viveash's Under-19s resume their UEFA Youth League campaign on Wednesday 25 February against Zenit St Petersburg in the last-16. The game is being played at Aldershot Town FC and entry is free to all spectators.
