U18聯賽季後賽第四輪精華 http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2015/04/ under-18s-report--chelsea-3-west-bromwich-albion-1.html Under-18s report: Chelsea 3 West Bromwich Albion 1 Sat, 18 Apr 2015 Our Under-18s moved to within four points of leaders Middlesbrough in the top play-off tier, with a game in hand, after a convincing victory. Mukhtar Ali curled in a brilliant free-kick with three minutes remaining while George Cater's dipping drive flew in for a late consolation for West Brom. == Team news == There were five changes from the side that started the youth team's last game at home to Middlesbrough and five schoolboys in the starting 11. Ali skippered the team from midfield alongside Isaac Christie-Davies and Kyle Scott, while Ugbo led the line up front, supported from out wide by Faiq Bolkiah and Muheim. The back five comprised four of the five schoolboy starters, with Jared Thompson in goal protected by Charlie Wakefield, Trevoh Chalobah, Josh Grant and Cole Dasilva. == First half == The Blues started brightly in the Cobham sunshine and could have been ahead after two minutes. Muheim's in-swinging corner from the right caused problems and Grant rose highest to meet the delivery, though was unfortunate to see his thumping header rebound back off the post. Bolkiah had a shot charged down and Ugbo's low effort was comfortably gathered by Matthew Hall in the visiting goal, however the Albion stopper could do nothing to keep the scores level on 19 minutes. Muheim picked up the ball centrally, having drifted inside from the left wing, and curled a brilliant effort into the far corner to notch his eighth goal of the season. George Cater's deflected strike flew narrowly over for West Brom and Thompson saved well after Chay Scrivens had fashioned a sight at goal following some neat footwork. However, the Blues were rewarded for a strong first-half display with a second goal nine minutes before the interval. The lively Scott recovered possession high up the field and the hosts put together a lovely flowing move that culminated in Ugbo beating Hall with a powerful strike. It was the Under-16 striker's 11th league goal of the campaign. == Second half == Joe Edwards's side continued to play some neat football after the break although goalmouth action at both ends was restricted. Schoolboys Mason Mount, Marc Guehi and Richard Nartey all entered the fray during the second period giving the Blues a very youthful look. Ali was unfortunate not to find Muheim and tee the forward up for a close-range tap-in, however the skipper's pass was read and cut out well by the defender. Bolkiah then fired over before, at the other end, James Smith flashed a cross-shot across the face of Thompson's goal. Thompson saved from Zak Elbouzedi before Mount almost found the top corner with a wonderful curling effort late on, though his effort was a few inches too high and flew over the bar. The second-half goals did arrive in the final minutes of the half; Ali curling in a brilliant 25-yard free-kick just inside the post before Cater's dipping drive from distance flew in for a late Baggies consolation. == Manager reaction == Under-18s manager Joe Edwards told the official Chelsea website he was delighted with the performance from a team featuring eight schoolboys over the 90 minutes. 'It was really controlled and mature from a young team and to get all three points as well was a big bonus,' he said. 'We wanted to get back to winning ways after back-to-back defeats and the experienced three in midfield were brilliant. 'They had a big responsibility to set the tone for what we were doing. Some of our football in the first half-hour was brilliant and to get the goals is always important. It could have had a bit of an end-of-season feel about it today, especially with the FA Youth Cup final on Monday, and that was something we spoke about in the build-up so it's a really positive morning all round for us.' Our youth team are back in action this Monday (20 April) as they travel to Manchester City for the first leg of the FA Youth Cup final. Tickets are currently on sale for the second leg return at Stamford Bridge on Monday 27 April. Earlier this week, Miro Muheim played the first half for the Switzerland Under-17s in a friendly against Holland Under-17s on Tuesday. He was replaced at the break with the score at 0-0, with the Dutch running out eventual 1-0 winners in Wezep.
