U21聯賽第一輪精華 https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2015/08/ under-21-report--liverpool-0-1-chelsea.html Under-21 report: Liverpool 0-1 Chelsea Sun 9 Aug 2015 Chelsea Under-21s opened their league campaign in dramatic fashion today (Sunday) as a stoppage-time winner handed them all three points at Liverpool. There were plenty of chances at both ends throughout but it took until the 92nd minute for a goal to come as Tammy Abraham continued his pre-season goalscoring form with a composed finish. == Team news == Adi Viveash included five second-year scholars in his first starting side of the Under-21 season, with Fikayo Tomori, Jake Clarke-Salter and Jay Dasilva all lining up in defence. They joined captain Fankaty Dabo in forming the protection for Mitchell Beeney in goal. Alex Kiwomya, Kasey Palmer and Reece Mitchell provided the attacking support for frontman Abraham, with Kyle Scott and Charly Musonda starting in central midfield. == First half == It was a lively opening at both ends as the sides that finished second and third in the Under-21 Premier League last season looked to start with intensity. Cameron Brannagan came closest early on as his fierce strike thumped back off the crossbar with Beeney beaten, while Jerome Sinclair fired over the rebound. Sergi Canos then tested the visiting stopper with a low drive that was pushed away and Tomori reacted quickly to clear any lingering danger. Viveash's side threatened through Palmer, whose curling shot after cutting inside from the left was gathered by home goalkeeper Ryan Fulton at the second attempt. Kiwomya then headed wide following a good delivery from Mitchell down the left flank, while Palmer's ambitious chip from distance floated narrowly over the crossbar. The visitors fashioned their best chance on the break following a Liverpool free-kick as Musonda led the charge forward and released Palmer clean through on goal. However, the referee pulled play back for an earlier foul, much to the frustration of those in blue. Opportunities became more restricted as half-time approached, though Brannagan did get a sight at goal as he headed over and Harry Wilson fired straight at Beeney after fashioning a chance down the right. == Second half == Palmer struck a drive narrowly over after a mazy forward run moments after the restart before Beeney was forced to make an excellent reaction save to keep the scores level. Canos escaped down the right wing and delivered dangerously, with Tomori only able to head back towards his own goal, however the goalkeeper reacted instinctively to push the ball over. Musonda tested Firth with a low drive and then saw a free-kick fly back off the wall, while Liverpool carved out two excellent opportunities to take the lead midway through the half. Sinclair first escaped in behind and dragged a shot across goal just wide, before getting on the end of a super forward pass from Alex O'Hanlon. Beeney, however, was alert to the danger and pushed the bouncing ball away to safety. Palmer brought a routine save from Firth and Musonda drilled a low strike wide as the game continued to remain open in the final exchanges. Down the other end, Wilson fired straight at Beeney and Connor Randall's rising effort flew over. The contest appeared to be heading for a stalemate before the visitors struck in stoppage time to snatch all three points, although Liverpool ought to have taken the lead themselves when Randall missed the target in a promising position in the box moments before. Musonda made the hosts pay, jinking dangerously away from defenders as he advanced forward before teeing up Abraham with a perfect pass. The striker, who had received few opportunities throughout the game, did the rest as he kept his composure to squeeze the ball inside the far post. == Manager reaction == Adi Viveash reflected afterwards on overcoming a difficult test on the opening day of the league season. Speaking to the official Chelsea website, he said: 'It was a big challenge tactically but we had some big performances across the pitch. I was really pleased with how we tried to implement the game plan and a lot of that worked well, while a lot of the problems Liverpool caused us we had identified beforehand so that's work we can continue to focus on moving forward. 'It's great for us to start with a clean sheet and we had two big performances from Fikayo Tomori and Jake Clarke-Salter at centre-back, while Mitchell Beeney also made a big save in the second half at 0-0. The really pleasing thing was the way we dug in during our difficult spell in the second half and that's not something I'm sure we would have done last season. With a younger group now, that bodes well.' The manager also praised the quality of his side's 92nd-minute winner, adding: 'We were on the end of late goals last season which cost us so it's nice to get a late winner ourselves. The game really hinged on those last few moments; their right-back should score with a great chance and then we go down the other end and snatch it. 'Musonda shows there what a real talent he is and to have that energy at that stage in the game to just glide past people so effortlessly is incredible. I said to the boys at half-time that we were choosing the wrong options when we were in good areas but Charly released the pass perfectly and Tammy did the rest. 'We know this season is a long development project and we've said we are not going to get too carried away when we win or too down when we lose, but obviously we want to win along the way as well so we're delighted with how things went today.' Our Under-21s return to league action on Friday 14 August when they host Southampton at Stamford Bridge. Tickets are currently available to purchase online.
