U18南區聯賽第三輪精華 https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2015/08/ under-18-report--arsenal-1-1-chelsea.html Under-18 report: Arsenal 1 Chelsea 1 Mon 24 Aug 2015 Chelsea Under-18s shared the league points with Arsenal after an excellent team performance at a rain-lashed London Colney this afternoon (Monday). The young Blues were energetic and enterprising throughout, taking a deserved lead four minutes into the second half through Charlie Wakefield. However, the visitors were unable to extend the advantage during their spell of dominance and were made to regret a couple of key squandered opportunities when the Gunners grabbed a leveller three minutes from time. Joe Edwards made four changes to the side that beat Aston Villa in a hard-fought contest nine days previously, with Jay Dasilva, Kyle Scott, Miro Muheim and Joseph Colley coming into the team. Colley, making his club debut, partnered fellow Swedish defender Ali Suljic in central defence, with Dasilva and captain Josh Grant at left-back and right-back respectively. Nathan Baxter continued in goal, with Ruben Sammut and Mukhtar Ali comprising the central midfield duo. Muheim, Wakefield and Scott provided the attacking support for striker Ike Ugbo. Chelsea began with a high-intensity game plan, hassling our opponents at every opportunity and giving them little time on the ball. Ugbo had the game's first sight at goal, a low strike that was blocked bravely behind, before Suljic was just underneath the resulting corner. Christopher Willock dragged a left-footed shot wide of the far post but our high-pressing strategy was reaping rewards as we enjoyed more possession and carried a greater threat in front of goal. Sammut twice went close from Muheim corners, the first a header and the second a volley on the turn, both of which flew narrowly over Hugo Keto's crossbar. Ugbo had another attempt well blocked following Muheim's cutback from the left before Muheim himself forced a save from the goalkeeper, down low to his right. Despite the Chelsea dominance, the home side could have grabbed the opener with the final action of the half. A dangerous cross from the left was hung up to the back post and Aaron Eyoma's header rebounded back off the post and away to safety. Edwards will have felt his side had done enough to earn a half-time lead, yet they didn't have to wait long after the restart to break the deadlock. A sweeping move involving Scott and Muheim saw the Swiss youth international deliver a teasing low centre across the face of goal that the supporting Wakefield had the simple task of prodding in. The goal brought the action to life and Arsenal responded through Joshua Da Silva, whose fierce drive from distance was watched well through the rain by Baxter and pushed away for a corner. Down the other end, the Blues went close to extending the lead as Suljic's thumping header from Muheim's corner came back off the bar and Grant nodded the rebound a couple of agonising inches over. A loose touch at the back from Colley almost handed a golden opportunity to Da Silva, however the defender recovered excellently to make a sliding tackle that diverted the ball away for a corner. The dangerous substitute Edward Nketiah then hit the woodwork following a low cross from the right, before two moments in both penalty areas turned the game. Chelsea had a strong case for a penalty as a corner came in from the right and Suljic was hit by a dangerously high foot. The referee had other ideas, awarding Arsenal a free-kick and, moments later, they equalised. A moment of quality down the left fashioned the chance and Eyoma was on hand to turn the cross beyond Baxter with an accurate diving header. There was one final chance for a winner as Sammut flicked on a stoppage-time corner and Colley headed towards goal, yet his effort went straight into the grateful arms of Keto and the referee soon called time on an entertaining London derby. == Manager reaction == After the game, manager Joe Edwards reflected on a pleasing performance and, as such, the collective disappointment at coming away with just a point. Speaking to the official Chelsea website, he said: 'Arsenal away is always one of the games we look forward to, both in terms of the rivalry and also because of the quality. 'We started a little slowly but then really grew into it and took hold of the game going into half-time. We had a spell for 15 minutes at the start of the second half in which we were excellent, both with and without the ball, but we know that when you're having such a good spell then you have to cash in a bit more and get the goals. 'The boys are certainly disappointed in the dressing room to concede a late goal but for as long as it's only 1-0 you're always leaving yourselves open to the good players they have in their side to hurt you. We're really pleased with the way we played and controlled the game, particularly after a really poor day here last season when we lost 5-1, but we're also a bit disappointed because it's two points dropped and we probably deserved more.' The youth team return to action on Saturday 5 September when they host Southampton at Cobham. Before then, Adi Viveash's Under-21s travel to Carrow Road to take on Norwich City in the Under-21 Premier League this Friday 28 August, live on Chelsea TV.
