U18南區聯賽第14輪精華 https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2015/11/ under-18s-report--southampton-2-7-chelsea.html Under-18s report: Southampton 2-7 Chelsea Sat 14 Nov 2015 Chelsea Under-18s came from behind to record an emphatic victory on the South Coast as they hit seven past Southampton to remain top of the south section in the Under-18 Premier League. The Saints took an early lead through Oskar Cvjeticanin before the visitors hit back with goals from Jacob Maddox, Harvey St Clair and a brace from Ike Ugbo to go in 4-1 ahead at the interval. St Clair and Ugbo added to their tallies after the restart, alongside a goal from Trevoh Chalobah, before the hosts grabbed a late consolation in added time through Ollie Cook. However, it had been a dominant display on the road from Joe Edwards's side as they recorded all three points and a sizeable boost to their goal difference. There were five changes from the side that drew away at Aston Villa seven days previously, with Dujon Sterling, Mukhtar Ali, Charlie Wakefield, Chalobah and Maddox all coming into the team. Sterling and Chalobah joined captain Josh Grant and Cole Dasilva in a back four protecting Nathan Baxter in goal. Ali lined up alongside Mason Mount in midfield, with Wakefield, St Clair and Maddox providing the attacking support for striker Ugbo. The visitors controlled the opening five minutes as they started brightly and dominated possession in the Southampton half, though with no clear sight at goal to show for an encouraging opening, it was the hosts celebrating an early lead as Stuart Wilkin's corner from the left was swung in dangerously and Cvjeticanin headed beyond Baxter at the front post. Despite the unsettling start, we quickly regained composure and pushed forward for a swift leveller. Mount had a shot towards an unguarded goal well blocked following a poor clearance from goalkeeper Jake Hallett, before the midfielder's deflected strike spun inches over and then Grant fired wide from the resulting corner. Hallett saved twice from St Clair as the league leaders continued to fashion opportunities before the equaliser arrived midway through the half. Wakefield drifted into a dangerous central position from the right and threaded a perfect pass through for Ugbo, who found the bottom corner via the inside of the far post with a neat finish. Harley Willard flashed a strike wide and Mount's volleyed attempt was just off-target before the Blues netted three times in nine minutes at the end of the half. Maddox netted the first, our second of the morning, as he punished the retreating Saints defenders by rifling into the bottom right corner. Southampton striker Olufela Olomola had a good chance to reply instantly as he got on the end of Wilkin's inviting forward pass but his first touch was too heavy and allowed Baxter to react and gather the loose ball. That profligacy in front of goal was punished down the other end as Ugbo flicked a header beyond Hallett after a brilliant composed cross from Mount and then St Clair found space 30 yards from goal before drilling a dipping strike into the corner. Despite holding a three-goal advantage at the break, the Blues remained hungry in the second period and extended their lead after 51 minutes. Chalobah was fed by Ali's reverse pass down the left and his clipped cross floated over the head of Hallett and into the back of the net. Willard's inswinging corner floated all the way through and rebounded off the near post as the Saints continued to cause problems from set-pieces but it was Chelsea, and Ugbo, back on the scoresheet again after 65 minutes. The lively and hard-working St Clair advanced to the left flank byline and cut the ball back to the lurking centre-forward, who put the ball past Hallett from eight yards for his ninth goal of the campaign. To their credit, and in spite of the scoreline, the hosts rallied for the latter part of the half and struck the woodwork again through Yan Valery before a final flurry of action in added time wrapped up an eventful morning at Staplewood. St Clair bagged our seventh with an expert finish over the onrushing goalkeeper following Ugbo's pass, before Cook's header handed Southampton a late consolation. That was to prove the game's final action of note, though it would not dampen what was a dominant display and an emphatic victory for the Blues. == Manager reaction == After the game, Joe Edwards reflected on an improved defensive performance from his side and some ruthless play in attack. Speaking to the official Chelsea website, he said: 'We were disappointed after the game last week away at Aston Villa with our defending, particularly from open play, so we spoke about that beforehand and it was much better today. 'It's still disappointing that we've gone behind to a set-play and that's how Southampton scored both their goals today so it's something that we will look at but other than that we were excellent and to score seven goals against any team is a massive positive. 'We hadn't won away from home for a few weeks so that was important for us and I felt the lads looked like they were really enjoying what they were doing, which was key. Southampton came again in the last 20 minutes but we stuck in there so it's a pleasing morning.' Edwards also gave his thoughts on this week's draw in the FA Youth Cup third round, which pitted his holders with a home tie against Huddersfield Town. The Terriers were visitors to Aldershot last season in the fourth round, when a hat-trick from Dominic Solanke, a brace for Tammy Abraham and a goal from Kasey Palmer saw us run out 6-1 winners en route to winning the competition for the second successive season. 'It was obviously a big scoreline last season but I remember from our preparation for the game that they beat Crystal Palace in the third round and had made it a very difficult game for them. I'm sure they'll feel they've taken something from the experience of playing us last year and it's another typical Youth Cup tie for us against a side from a lower level but our boys are excited and ready to go again in that competition.' Further details on a date and time for the third round clash will be confirmed shortly. In the meantime, the youth team return to action in a fortnight with a home game against Leicester City.
