Fikayo Tomori's strike and Bradley Collins's penalty save handed Adi Viveash's holders a half-time advantage before the French side equalised after the interval. However, Kasey Palmer's goal moments later ensured we were swiftly back in front and another dogged, determined defensive performance, so typical of the young Blues in Europe this season, meant we held on to claim back-to-back European triumphs. After the game, manager Viveash reflected on a momentous achievement for everyone at the Chelsea Academy, pointing out that every player involved in the final is eligible to represent England and many have been at the club for 10 years or more. Speaking to the official Chelsea website, he said: 'The fact that we have won this trophy again with a full complement of England-eligible players is a testament to the work that has gone on for over a decade or more in the Academy. It probably means a little bit more because of that. 'We had such an outstanding team last year that could score goals at will so I think it almost makes it a bigger achievement to do it again with a younger group. I's a different group with different qualities; they have that spirit and that quality defensive record that has been built over 10 years. They should be highly commended because it's an incredible achievement.' The Blues recorded six clean sheets in 10 European outings this season, conceding just a single goal across the quarter-final, semi-final and final. Viveash acknowledges that resilience makes his side a formidable team to beat; they have won the trophy this year without losing a game and are unbeaten in Europe in almost 18 months. 'Ajax were probably the best technical team we've faced in the competition this year but PSG have power and physicality that means they can dominate a game in a different way. That was a great education for our players. There were good battles all over the pitch but we edged the key areas and that's how we won the game. 'The game plan was to press high in the first 15 minutes because both teams had obviously played in the semi-finals on Friday. We wanted to try to catch them early on and it worked a treat. Bradley Collins mades a great penalty save and then we were just desperate to get the second goal but we missed a couple of good opportunities. 'When they equalised, you're looking for our character to come out from a young squad and they responded brilliantly. Kasey scored an outstanding goal and then in the last 20 minutes it was backs-to-the-wall defending, getting in blocks and headers. People always talk about attacking players who can change games but they never really talk about the players at the back that change games. 'The reason we've won this trophy is because of our defensive record and some outstanding defensive work throughout the team, whoever has played. We showed a fantastic team spirit in that period; that's why we have the best defence in the competition and that's why we're the champions again.' Ruben Loftus-Cheek offers the evidence that players can progress from this successful Under-19s group into the first team, after winning the trophy last season. Jake Clarke-Salter, partnering Tomori at centre-back in Nyon, recently made his Premier League debut under Guus Hiddink at Aston Villa, and Ola Aina, Charlie Colkett and Palmer, who all started both games in Switzerland, were on the bench for our recent visit to the Liberty Stadium. 'It's satisfying for everyone who works in development at Chelsea to see,' Viveash continues. 'Now we just hope some of the boys who've played in the final get an opportunity to show the manager what they can do at first-team level. What they have achieved this weekend can only help them towards that next goal.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2016/04/ uefa-youth-league-reaction--amazing-achievement-for-everyone.html UEFA Youth League reaction: Amazing for all Tue 19 Apr 2016 A 2-1 victory for our Under-19s against Paris Saint-Germain in Switzerland means Chelsea reign as kings of Europe in youth football for another year. After the triumph in Nyon's Colvoray Stadium, the official Chelsea website spoke to a number of the title-winning squad for their reaction. Captain Charlie Colkett scored in the semi-final win over Anderlecht on Friday and lifted the trophy for a second year running. 'To win this competition in back-to-back seasons and create a bit of history is amazing; everyone is ecstatic,' he said. 'We knew what to expect from PSG in that they are a powerful side with a lot of strengths but we also knew they had weaknesses. We had a game plan that we stuck to.' The skipper also highlighted the swift response of the team to the French side's equaliser as Kasey Palmer netted to put us back in front almost immediately. 'We were gutted to concede, especially after Brad Collins had saved a penalty, but it was so important to get the second goal as quickly as we did. The early goal settled a few nerves but we had to stay switched on because there was so long to go. We probably didn't play our best football in the game but the result is all that matters in finals.' Defender Fikayo Tomori netted the opener after 10 minutes, his fifth goal of the campaign, though the Canada Under-20 international emphasised the defensive effort of his teammates, who conceded just one goal in the quarter-final, semi-final and final combined. 'To win this again is a special achievement,' he said. 'We expected PSG to come on to us, especially in the second half, but I felt we were good enough to win. We've been solid and consistent all season at the back and it's been quite an important factor for us. We know that if we keep clean sheets and keep goals out then we're definitely capable of scoring at the other end. 'This season has been a bit different for me because I didn't score at all last year. I's even more special to score in a final; a great personal feeling for me' Tomori's centre-back partner was also instrumental in the final triumph and Jake Clarke-Salter, the 18-year-old who recently made his first team debut in a Premier League game at Aston Villa, has now won two UEFA Youth League titles and two FA Youth Cups in three years. Along with Jay Dasilva, he could join an exclusive club by winning a third Youth Cup over the next seven days, with our youth team facing Manchester City in the final this Friday 22 April away from home before the return at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday 27 April. Tickets are currently available to purchase online, with information here. 'To win the trophy two years in a row is an amazing achievement for any club so we're very proud,' he said afterwards. 'We've been together as a group for a long time now and have a good togetherness which helps us get through certain situations. PSG were a physical team, probably the toughest we've played in that sense, but I thought our defence and the whole team matched them.' Kasey Palmer netted the winner in the second half, three days after scoring in the semi-final and then being withdrawn with a knock at the break. 'It was quite a difficult weekend for me going into this game carrying a little knock but I just wanted to help the team as much as I could. To score the winning goal in a European final means a lot to me and I'm just delighted for everyone involved because the players and staff have worked so hard to achieve this again. 'We have a different, younger group this year so we've had to work harder but we've achieved the goal we set ourselves at the start of the season. We worked hard in the game and dug in until the last minute to get the result. I felt more responsibility this year as one of the older players but I thought the first-years that were involved and Dujon Sterling as an Under-16 at right-back did really well. It was a great effort from the whole team.' -Chelsea TV will screen a special documentary on the trip on Thursday 5 May.
