U18南區聯賽第二輪精華 https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2016/08/ under-18s-report--southampton-v-chelsea.html Under-18s report: Southampton 3 Chelsea 2 Sat 20 Aug 2016 Our youth team came from behind to lead but two goals in the final 15 minutes from Tyreke Johnson condemned them to defeat on the south coast this morning (Saturday). A sluggish start was punished as Siph Mdlasose fired Southampton into an early lead. However, goals either side of the interval from Tariq Uwakwe and George McEachran handed the youth team an advantage with 35 minutes to play. It seemed like the youngsters were heading for a second win of the new campaign but a late penalty converted by Tyreke Johnson levelled the scores again before the forward's strike from distance sealed the win for the Saints. Jody Morris made four changes from the opening weekend win over Fulham the previous Saturday, with Jared Thompson, Marc Guehi, Juan Castillo and Jacob Maddox all coming into the side. Thompson lined up in goal protected by a back four of captain Josh Grant, Cole Dasilva, Richard Nartey and Guehi. Luke McCormick and Uwakwe continued in central midfield, while Charlie Brown started up front. Juan Castillo, McEachran and Maddox provided the attacking support. The hosts enjoyed the better of the opening period, starting brightly and forcing mistakes from the Blues all over the field. Tyreke Johnson forced a good low save from Thompson after escaping down the left channel before Mdlasose was afforded similar space down the opposite flank but could not test the visiting keeper. Southampton went in front after 14 minutes and once again it was a quick break sprung from midfield that caught Morris's team out. Grant won the header on halfway but the Saints broke with pace and Mdlasose was found accelerating down the right wing. The South African winger kept his composure as he bore down on goal and finished smartly. The youngsters were shaken but quickly restored parity in the contest. Uwakwe had warmed the palms of Adam Parkes in the Saints goal early in the game with a deflected effort but the home goalkeeper had no chance of keeping out the 16-year-old's strike after 27 minutes. Defending deep, the hosts handed the midfielder too much time and space to advance from midfield and fire a left-footed shot into the corner of the goal. The equaliser helped to settle some nerves and we grew stronger in the game as the half progressed. Maddox forced a low stop from Parkes before the interval, at which point Morris replaced McCormick with schoolboy forward Callum Hudson-Odoi, shifting Maddox into a more central role. Within 10 minutes of the restart, the visitors took the lead and Hudson-Odoi played a key role as he shifted the ball infield to McEachran at the end of a neat move. The young midfielder did the rest, taking aim from the edge of the box to drill a low effort into the bottom corner beyond Parkes's desperate dive. The goal gave the visitors the platform to enjoy their strongest spell of the game, controlling possession and restricting the danger to Thompson's goal. They probed for the killer third goal but chances were few and far between as the contest ticked towards its climax. The hosts turned the game back on its head out of nothing with 11 minutes remaining. Thompson was penalised for a foul on Johnson in the 18-yard box despite appearing to make contact with the ball and the winger stepped up to squeeze the ball into the corner, despite the goalkeeper getting a hand to the spot-kick. Johnson then struck the winner in the 86th minute with a dipping effort from distance that left Thompson helpless, although there was time left for Maddox to skew a great chance narrowly wide after Parkes had raced off his line and mistimed his clearance. The youth team return to action in the Under-18 Premier League next Friday 26 August with a home game against Swansea City. Before then, our development squad host Liverpool at Aldershot on Monday 22 August in Premier League 2. Both games are live on Chelsea TV. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2016/08/ under-18s-reaction--raising-standards.html Under-18s reaction: Raising standards Sun 21 Aug 2016 Having come from behind to lead 2-1 entering the closing stages of their second Under-18 Premier League game of the season, our youth team travelled back from the south coast disappointed in defeat after conceding two late goals. Southampton had led but Tariq Uwakwe and George McEachran fired back to put Jody Morris's side in front before a brace from Tyreke Johnson inflicted a first defeat of the season on the youngsters. After the game, Morris reflected on a topsy-turvy match and an uncharacteristic performance from his players. 'I felt the first 45 minutes was of an unacceptable level from every player on the pitch,' he told the official Chelsea website. 'We were second to everything but more importantly our quality on the ball was poor. The ball turned over far too many times and we made the wrong pass selection time and again. We let the lads know we were disappointed at half-time. 'I could have taken anybody off but it was important to get Jacob Maddox into midfield to try and get his quality on the ball. It also allowed us to bring on Callum Hudson-Odoi and he was able to add that extra bit of quality which lifted everybody else. We dominated for 35 minutes in the second half but that's not enough. It's two weeks in a row where we've played well for 30 or 35 minutes but we need to raise that. 'Tariq scored a great goal in the first half but it was hard to enjoy that when we were playing so badly. The second goal was a real good team move and a great goal for us to score but then we conceded twice at the end against the run of play when we were totally in control. 'To concede those goals is a big disappointment but the biggest frustration was our first half performance. In the second half, we played a bit more like ourselves but we need to be more consistent at those levels for longer.' The youth team return to action on Friday 26 August with a home game against Swansea City. Kick-off is at 1pm and it will be shown live on Chelsea TV. -Picture courtesy of Mark Sandom.
