U18南區聯賽第16輪 https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2017/01/ under-18s-report--swansea-0-chelsea-5.html Under-18s report: Swansea 0 Chelsea 5 Thu 5 Jan 2017 Our Under-18s recorded a comprehensive victory and a clean sheet on their travels as they extended their lead at the top of the Under-18 Premier League south section to seven points. Tariq Uwakwe fired the visitors in front after 20 minutes before Charlie Brown doubled our lead a minute before the break to send Jody Morris's side into the interval 2-0 up. Reece James was one of two introduced for the second period and he added a third 11 minutes after the restart, before late goals from Uwakwe and George McEachran gave us our second 5-0 win over Swansea this season. Morris started with a 3-4-3 shape as Marc Guehi, Richard Nartey and Josh Grant lined up as the three centre-backs, with Cole Dasilva and Uwakwe at right wing-back and left wing-back respectively. Brown led the line up front supported by Callum Hudson-Odoi and McEachran, while Conor Gallagher partnered Luke McCormick in central midfield. On a frosty morning in south Wales, it took 15 minutes for the Blues to blow away the cobwebs following their festive break. A left-sided Swans corner flashed dangerously across the face of Cumming's goal as the hosts started the brighter of the two sides, before Hudson-Odoi fired a warning shot wide following good work from McEachran. Mason Jones-Thomas and Sean Hanbury both brought routine saves from Cumming before the deadlock was broken with 20 minutes on the clock. Dasilva found Hudson-Odoi on the turn with a smart pass out from the back and the forward advanced dangerously before playing the ball out wide to the left for Uwakwe. The midfielder, playing in a slightly unfamiliar wing-back role, cut inside before finishing well into the bottom far corner. Brown tested Lewis Thomas in the Swansea goal with a low shot from a tight angle before the lively McEachran twice tested the home stopper with left-footed efforts. With the half drawing to a close, Morris's men struck a decisive second goal a minute before half-time. Swans skipper Brandon Cooper was dispossessed at the back by Hudson-Odoi after Thomas's pass out and Brown clipped the ball confidently into the net for his sixth goal of the campaign. James and Martell Taylor-Crossdale were brought on at the break and the former made his impact by netting his maiden goal of the season after 56 minutes. An intricate move down the left found Dasilva in space and his perfect delivery gave James a simple finish at the back post. Buoyed by the scoreline and an impressive display, the visitors were confident and played some excellent football for the remainder of the game. Uwakwe's free-kick bounced away off the top of the crossbar and Taylor-Crossdale was thwarted by a last-ditch defensive intervention as Hudson-Odoi and McEachran fashioned opportunities at will. Two more goals in the final 10 minutes put a deserved gloss on the scoreline for the league leaders. Uwakwe bagged his brace with a drive that arrowed beyond Thomas after collecting a clever throw into space from Dasilva, before McEachran deservedly put his name on the scoresheet as he capitalised on another Swansea mistake in possession at the back and finished neatly. The victory extends the Under-18s' unbeaten run to 13 matches in all competitions and makes it three 5-0 wins from three against Welsh opposition this term, following last month's win in the FA Youth Cup third round against Cardiff City. Morris's side return to action with a home game against Aston Villa next Saturday 14 January. - Elsewhere today (Thursday), our Academy ranks have been bolstered by the signing of Kyle Jameson. The 18-year-old centre-back was an unregistered player and signs a professional contract at the club until the end of next season. Meanwhile, Martell Taylor-Crossdale and Jamie Cumming have also both signed professional deals at the club in recent days.
