https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2017/03/ under-18s-report--west-ham-0-4-chelsea.html Under-18s report: West Ham 0 Chelsea 4 Fri 10 Mar 2017 Our youth team kicked off the elite merit round in the Under-18 Premier League with a resounding away win in east London. A brace from schoolboy Callum Hudson-Odoi and a penalty converted by captain Luke McCormick handed us a 3-0 advantage at the break before Cole Dasilva sealed the points with a close-range finish two minutes into the second period. As the first game of the weekend, it leaves our youngsters top with a healthy goal difference. Jody Morris made four changes from our previous visit to Little Heath, a 3-0 win that rounded off the regional programme for the south section winners. Jared Thompson came into the side in goal protected by a back three consisting of Marc Guehi, Joseph Colley and Reece James, while Dasilva and Juan Castillo lined up in the wing-back positions. Martell Taylor-Crossdale continued to lead the line up top supported by Hudson-Odoi and George McEachran, while McCormick partnered Tariq Uwakwe in central midfield. The visitors, all in blue, started with purpose as they looked to make an early statement of intent in their bid to be crowned national champions. Taylor-Crossdale tested Rihards Matrevics with a clever strike on the turn after just four minutes before Joe Powell did well to head clear a dangerous Uwakwe delivery during a bright start from the Blues. It took us until the second half to break the deadlock on our previous visit to Little Heath last month. Yet there were just 12 minutes on the clock on this occasion when Morris's men struck the opener. Hudson-Odoi provided a slide-rule pass for Taylor-Crossdale and the striker deceived defender Tunji Akinola with some quick footwork before being taken down by the home skipper. The referee showed no hesitation in pointing to the spot and McCormick stepped up to convert confidently from 12 yards. It was just reward for a positive opening period and the Blues didn't look back. Uwakwe forced a routine save from the keeper with a well-struck volley from the edge of the box after Taylor-Crossdale's delivery had been headed clear but the Hammers stopper was given less chance moments later as Hudson-Odoi doubled our advantage. McCormick regained possession in midfield and set the move going before McEachran threaded through an inviting pass to find the run of the schoolboy forward. With Matrevics committed, Hudson-Odoi sensed his opportunity and rounded the keeper before slotting the ball precisely inside the near post. Powell's free-kick flew narrowly wide as a warning to the visitors but they were rarely troubled in a dominant first half and extended their lead with less than 25 minutes played. It was a goal that stood out for its precision, skill and audacity, though one that was only made possible after a crunching tackle won by James on halfway. The ball was worked quickly into the box and Hudson-Odoi then produced the magic, taking it down on his chest before delicately lifting it over the goalkeeper on the half-volley. Chances continued to come for the Blues. Hudson-Odoi headed straight at Matrevics before Castillo went down in the box but the Dutchman's appeals failed to convince the officials to award a second spot-kick. The best opportunity of the half for the hosts came moments before the break. Korrey Henry advanced to the byline down the right and found Powell in the six-yard box but the midfielder failed to direct his effort on target. The importance of goal difference could prove significant in this mini-league and Morris would have demanded continued effort and application after the restart despite the three-goal advantage. It was a determination reflected in performances throughout the team in the second period and saw the lead extended to 4-0 after 47 minutes. Castillo did well down the left and cut the ball back invitingly towards McEachran eight yards out. The 16-year-old intelligently let the ball run with a clever dummy and roll to Dasilva in space, with the wing-back arrowing a strike into the bottom corner. McEachran fired straight at the keeper as the visitors continued to work tirelessly, pressing high to win the ball back and using possession patiently but also with purpose. Jahmal Hector-Ingram ought to have pulled a goal back but could not get on the end of an inviting inswinging cross before the striker won a penalty after a clumsy coming-together with James. Henry took on responsibilities from the spot but was thwarted by Thompson, who dived low to his right to parry before gathering at the second attempt to preserve our clean sheet. James went close to making it 5-0 with a flicked header that looped narrowly over the crossbar before Hudson-Odoi and Taylor-Crossdale fired off-target late on we remained on the front foot until the final whistle. Another impressive performance, three points and a tenth clean sheet in the last 11 outing for our youngsters capped a pleasing afternoon. Their bid to be crowned national champions begins in style.
