There may have a long gap since our last match, but Frank Lampard reflecting afterwards on the fact his side could have been more clinical was nothing new. We had 19 shots, of which five were on target. Villa blocked a further seven. Of the hosts' eight efforts, half tested Kepa Arrizabalaga. Eleven of our attempts were from outside the box - including five in the final 10 minutes - while five stemmed from set-pieces. Willian recorded a game-high four shots. Marcos Alonso, Mateo Kovacic and sub Christian Pulisic had three each. We had vast swathes of possession, 74 per cent in total. After our two centre-backs Toni Rudiger (10.5 per cent) and Andreas Christensen (10 per cent), N'Golo Kante (9.3 per cent) spent the most time on the ball. That trio were also responsible for playing the most passes. Of those players to start the game, Christensen's pass completion rate was the highest (94 per cent), followed by Kovacic and Rudiger (both 92 per cent). As a team our pass success rate was 86 per cent, dropping to 79.6 per cent in the opposition's half. Villa's was 64 per cent overall. When it came to key passes, Willian's five was two more than Cesar Azpilicueta, who assisted both the goals. There were plenty of aerial challenges of both ends of the pitch, reflected by the fact Andreas Christensen's six duels won in the air was bettered only by Kortney Hause, who won seven. Olivier Giroud came out on top in five. Of the 52 aerial duels contested overall, both teams won exactly half. Our top tacklers were Kante and Mason Mount, who won two each, while Azpilicueta and Alonso recorded a Chelsea-high two interceptions. Defending for so much of the game, Villa cleared the ball 31 times and recorded 19 blocks. It was the second time in the Premier League this season we have come from behind to get a result, the other being at the Emirates in December.
