: Fernando Rodney 由於他的手肘的不適一直沒有好轉,將在星期四接受
Notes: Rodney's season over
DETROIT -- For the Tigers, surviving April with a winning record is being
balanced with simply surviving April. The news on the injury front Tuesday left
the Tigers fighting attrition, both short and long term.
First, the long-term news: Fernando Rodney received his second opinion from or
thopedist Dr. James Andrews, who diagnosed the reliever with a tear in his
ulnar collateral ligament. He's scheduled to have Tommy John ligament
replacement surgery Wednesday morning and will miss the rest of the season.
"We want to get him fixed," Trammell said. "And we don't want to wait any
longer."
Rodney's situation is the worst-case scenario of an injury that first surfaced
March 14, when he left a Spring Training game against Tampa Bay with pain in
his throwing elbow. Since then, Rodney has alternated between resting his arm
and trying to gear it up to game speed.
Rodney was originally diagnosed with tendinitis in his elbow and then a
sprained elbow upon further examination. After he still felt pain in the elbow
during a simulated game Saturday, however, both Rodney and the team agreed
that he needed a second opinion.
"He never was without pain totally," manager Alan Trammell said. "There were
some days that were better than others, but he was never really completely
100 percent. From what we're gathering, he's had something there for a while
that he's been able to pitch through. Something's different,
and the guy's never complained until recently.
Something changed sometime in the last month or so
that made him feel like he wasn't ready."
He's the second Tigers reliever to undergo Tommy John surgery. Chris Spurling
had the procedure last month, also conducted by Dr. Andrews.
The surgery denies the Tigers bullpen one of its promising young arms, not to
mention its hardest thrower at the Major League level. In the short term,
however, the Tigers have other injury concerns.
: Tommy John的手術,這樣表示至少有一年看不到他了。
: 另外I.ROD今天不會先發,因為他右手中指似乎有些不適,到底傷勢如何要等
: X光檢查的結果才知道。
X-rays pending on Pudge: Ivan Rodriguez was originally in Wednesday's starting
lineup, but was scratched after complaining of pain and stiffness in his
right middle and ring fingers. Rodriguez was hit on the hand by Adam
Kennedy's knee on a play at the plate in the sixth inning on Tuesday.
"It was so cold [Tuesday night] that I didn't really feel how painful it was,"
Rodriguez said. "But today I woke up and I really can't squeeze the ball,
can't grab a bat, can't put a batting glove on."
X-ray results were negative; he's day-to-day.
Since the throw came in low, Rodriguez had to put his hands in harm's way to
grab the ball and make the tag. He chalked it up to the price of being a
catcher.
"That's why it's so exciting to be a catcher," he said. "That's why I like the
position so much. I'm doing things offensively and still I get hit every day
behind the plate. You get hit all the time and you still have to play the game
. It happens a lot."
