CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: PREPARATIONS FOR JUVE CLASH Wednesday at 20h45 the much awaited clash will take place between Deportivo and Italian giants Juventus in Riazor. Both clubs have a difficult task of winning their domestic competitions and therefore qualifying for the Quarter Finals of the Champions League would be a major boost to their season. This morning Deportivo have started their preparation for this crucial match after playing in Madrid this weekend. Players like Naybet and Duscher will have the opportunity to show their fitness as the Moroccan defender has returned from playing the Africa Cup while Duscher has been out injured for some weeks. But it seems that the Champions League match will come too early for the Argentinean midfielder. The most important question mark at Deportivo though concerns the presence of Juan Carlos Valeron. On Saturday the gifted midfielder had to be replaced by Fran after 61 minutes after suffering an injury in his right leg. But this seemed a precaution measure as the injury doesn't seem to be very serious and therefore he probably can play against the Italians. <<後防線分析>> The fact that only Duscher seems to be out for this clash means that Irureta has a lot of players to chose from in this first Champions League encounter of 2004. Romero has done well as a central defender against Sevilla and Atletico as the team didn't leak goals. Romero also played as a central defender against Juventus in November 2002 when both teams shared the points in Riazor (2-2). With Romero in the centre, Capdevila will take the left wing. But if Irureta wants to use Naybet again it will mean that Romero will play at the left wing. The other parts of the defence will consist of Jorge Andrade and Lionel Scaloni. <<中前場位置分析>> In midfield the recent discussion will apply which of the central midfielders will play (Fran, Valeron, Sergio). Mauro Silva is assured of a place while Luque and Victor Sanchez also are. Diego Tristan might be taken out though as his misses against Atletico cost Deportivo dearly. But Juventus looked to have their mind set on the match in Riazor as several players didn't start this Serie A match. For example, French international striker David Trezeguet wasn't there. Bologna started the match better but slowly Juventus took control. But not until the 56th minute they scored a goal when Iuliano was able to produce the 0-1. Instead of doubling the score in the minutes after the men of Lippi had to defend in the final minutes to secure the victory. But this Juventus team is vulnerable in defence. After 22 matches they already have leaked 25 competition goals. Compare this to the 29 and 23 goals they leaked in the previous seasons after 34 matches. Only in 11 of their 35 official matches this season the Italian experts prevented the opponent from scoring at least one goal.
