With the signing of goalkeeper Jacques Songo’o of Friday this part of the
Deportivo squad was closed as the August 31 deadline has passed to subscribe
new players for the new season. In total three new players have been signed by
the club: goalkeepers Songo’o and Munua and striker Munitis.
More action there was concerning players leaving, as goalkeepers Juanmi (to
Murcia) and Dani Mallo (on loan to Elche) left the club while Roy Makaay was
sold to Bayern Munich. Jose Manuel already was loaned out to Elche and it was
confirmed that Dani Mallo and the midfielder will be accompanied by Goran
Djorovic and ‘Toro’ Acuna. Both players finally accepted a loan out to Elche.
Meanwhile Deportivo and Las Palmas agreed on a loan out of striker Changui. He
hasn’t had much opportunities in the past seasons at Deportivo and he,
despite the financial troubles of the island club, preferred to play the season
there instead of a loan out to Nacional de Montevideo. This means that still no
solution has been found for Fernando and Ivan Perez.
Overall this means that this summer has been the one with least action since
Lendoiro became president of Deportivo in 1988. Deportivo haven’t made any
big financial effort this summer as Songo’o and Munitis came for free while
Munua has been loaned from Nacional. In the past summers Deportivo spent about
30 million per pre-season.
