Q: What will it take for the Dodgers to once again become one of
the premier franchises in sports?
A: I think we're on our way. What had to happen started before I
got here. [Former General Manager] Danny Evans rebuilt the
scouting system and the farm system, with Logan White and Terry
Collins. You try to create some stability. Right now, we have a
team that will be together for a while, which can buy our farm
system a year or two, because that's all we're really going to
need. We're looking to get back to the situation they had in
the '80s when another Rookie of the Year candidate was coming
out of the minors every year. Because that's how you reach that
goal of being there every single year. You can't build a team
through free agency. You can buttress a team that way, but you
can't build it.
