.... being in a place like L.A., there's a difference in resources.
In Oakland, it was very difficult for us to play in major league free
agency. .... But there were times we thought a player might be
undervalued at $10 million (per year) and yet we couldn't play in
that game because we didn't have the $10 million to spend on him,
even if we thought it was a great bargain. ....
.... But I doubt that the 25 players we have right now are going to
be the same 25 that will be here Sept. 30 or Oct. 1. We're at a stage
now where I'd like to let this team go out and play and see what it
can do and then continue to re-evaluate it and then maybe in June or
July start looking to pick up another piece that we need. ....
.... There's always a balance between short term and long term in terms
of what you're trying to accomplish. We're trying to win in both short
term and long term. ....
