Dodgers' Andruw Jones goes on DL, Nomar comes off

Andruw Jones' disappointing season took another turn in the wrong direction
Tuesday when he was placed on the disabled list with tendinitis in his left
knee.
意思就是說安豬因左膝受傷進入DL.
With Jones going on the disabled list, the Dodgers activated Nomar
Garciaparra, who started at shortstop Tuesday night and went 0 for 3.
在安豬進DL之後呢 星期二晚上Nomar就先發以游擊手上場3打數沒有安打.
Jones had surgery on his right knee in late May, and Manager Joe Torre said
the outfielder has been having problems with his left knee for days, and it
wasn't any better.
Torre said when Jones is healthy enough, he'll join Class AAA Las Vegas to
begin a rehab assignment.
"He's frustrated," Torre said. "I think it's just frustration on his part.
He's sitting down. He's not playing. It's really tough to have that rosy
outlook when you're sitting here and maybe playing defense and pinch hit once
in a while."
When Juan Pierre was placed on the disabled list June 30 with a left knee
sprain, Jones asked to come back to help the team. However, he may not have
been fully healed following surgery, and he certainly hadn't gotten his
hitting in order.
Perhaps it was a mistake to bring Jones back so soon.

"We were in a weakened position at that time with Juan just going down,"
Torre said. "When he text messaged me that first day in Houston, I just caved
in at that point. ... We probably, in retrospect, should have left him there."
Ethier Big Off the Bench
The odd outfielder out for the first time in four games, Andre Ethier showed
he can come off the bench, too.
With Pierre back in center after being limited to pinch-hitting duty the past
three games, and Matt Kemp moving from center to right, Ethier found himself
out of the lineup.
Facing a "tough" pitcher in Philadelphia's Cole Hamels, Torre felt Pierre
afforded the Dodgers a batter chance.
"He's equally tough on lefties and righties ..." Torre said of Hamels. "Juan
is one of those guys that can work an at-bat."
Pierre went 1 for 4 and scored a run. But it was Ethier who had the biggest
at-bat, after pinch hitting in the seventh and taking over in right in
eighth. Facing lefty J. C. Romero in the ninth, Ethier singled Russell Martin
in with the winner.
