Czechs name squad for training camp
PRAGUE, May 19 (Reuters)
Czech coach Karel Brueckner announced a 24-man squad for his Euro 2004
training camp on Wednesday, with striker Miroslav Matusovic receiving
a surprise call-up.
Brueckner told a news conference that he will take an extra player to
the one-week camp, which begins on May 24 in the Austrian town of Seefeld,
and will trim the squad down to the 23-man limit before departing for
Portugal.
"Matusovic is not the 24th player. His performance recently speaks
strongly for a place on the team," Brueckner said.
Matusovic, 23, netted 10 goals this season for Banik Ostrava and was a
potent force up front with Marek Heinz, the leading scorer in the Czech
first division with 19 goals.
There were no other surprises for the Czechs, who have been drawn into
Group D along with Germany, the Netherlands and Latvia.
