Biography
In his first season at Barcelona and after having been the most
exciting signing of season 2001-02, Saviola is showing why there
were so many people waiting on him at Barcelona airport when he
arrived in the city.
Javier Pedro Saviola is considered as one of the stars of football
and has all the qualities to really stand out at FC Barcelona.
Known in his country as el conejo, the rabbit, the Argentinean
played all his football there with River Plate and lived out the
experience of making a first team debut at the age of sixteen.
With a scoring average of 0.48 goals per game, he made history in
the Buenos Aires club and managed to win two titles, the Apertura
Trophy of 1999 and the Clausara Trophy of 2000. This forward lead
the Argentina under 20 team to victory in the under 20 World Cup
played in his country and was also top goal scorer and player of
the tournament.
Position
The young FC Barcelona forward is quick, mobile and can escape from
his markers in very tight areas. He as a very keen eye for goal which
is up there with the best in the business.
In his first season with FC Barcelona he has shown his quality is not
in doubt. He finds space easily, making passes from midfield a joy for
the players there, often finding himself one-to-one with the goalkeeper
and finishing with class.
It is worth pointing out the relationship that he has struck up on the
pitch with players such as Kluivert and Xavi.
