Laporta Denies Quit Claims
Barcelona chairman Joan Laporta has denied the recent stories suggesting him
to be on the verge of submitting his resignation
The Catalan club's president commented on his future upon his arrival from
Nyon at the El Prat airport in Barcelona after a meeting with the European
Club Association (ECA).
News daily Sport claimed earlier today that Laporta would be asked by his own
board of directors to step down during a meeting scheduled for Thursday.
Although Laporta has denied these reports, stressing that he is not thinking
about stepping down, he has not ruled out submitting his resignation as it
will depend on the opinion of the members of the board.
"I have no intention of quitting and, in fact, as I said in due time, we are
legitimized to continue, the board will meet this Thursday and I want to talk
to the members," he said.
"The meeting will take place on Thursday, as always, and I am not going to
say what we will decide because I do not know the opinion of the majority."
Laporta is convinced that he can stay as president of the club as he
perceives the support of most of the members of the board, although he
admitted that some of his associates might be affected by the club's current
situation.
"I believe we have an important margin for manoeuvre," Laporta noted.
"We have overcome the motion and that is something to be happy with. In
Europe, in the ECA, they congratulated us for overcoming this process and I
thank everyone that has shown his support."
