Eight Barça Board Members Resign Amid Laporta Chaos
Joan Laporta has lost eight members of his board of directors in the wake of
Barcelona's motion of censure.
The Barcelona board narrowly survived the vote of no confidence launched by
two associantes, losing the motion with just 37.7% of the votes but still
managing to stay in charge of the club.
Albert Vicens, Ferran Soriano, Marc Ingla, Evarist Murtra, Toni Rovira,
Xavier Cambra, Clàudia Vives-Fierro and Josep Lluís Vilaseca have all
decided to step down following Laporta's confirmation that he will stay as
chairman of the club despite the opinion of the associates.
A press statement issued by the departing members reports that they have
resigned because of "discrepancies in the way to act after the result of the
motion."
"We respect the decision taken by the president and the other members that
stay. We can assure the associates that the club are in a great economical,
social and sporting situation," the press statement reads.
Albert Vicens, who read the statement to the press, also thanked the
associates for all the support shown since June 2003.
Since he was elected as president of the club, Joan Laporta has already seen
14 members of his board of directors resigning.
