Adriaanse quits as Porto coach
LISBON, Aug 9 (Reuters)

Dutchman Co Adriaanse has resigned as coach of Portuguese champions Porto, the
club said on Wednesday.
Dutch news agency ANP reported that Adriaanse had left because of a "rift in
confidence" with Porto's management board.

The club said in a statement on its Web site: "Adriaanse presented his
resignation from Porto on Wednesday morning." It said he had already
personally said goodbye to the players and would not join the team on a
pre-season tour of England.
Porto gave no reason for his resignation and did not say anything about
Adriaanse's replacement. Until a new coach is named, the side will be coached
by former Porto player Rui Barros.
Porto對於他的辭職並沒有說明原因，也沒有提到任何關於Adriaanse的繼任者。

Adriaanse's contract with Porto was due to expire in June 2007. He is the
second Dutch coach to leave Portugal in a few months. Benfica coach Ronald
Koeman left for PSV Eindhoven in May.

Portuguese media reported in recent days that Adriaanse had demanded that
Porto sign a striker to replace South African Benni McCarthy who has joined

Adriaanse, the club's fifth coach since they won the champions league in
2004, won his first title last season.

The 59-year-old coach was often criticised by Portuguese media for his
tactical changes.
The Portuguese season starts on Aug. 26.
